I was planning on buying a BCM Bolt Carrier Group (MPI) - Auto (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bolt-Carrier-Group-MPI-Auto-M16-p/bcm%20bolt%20carrier%20group%20auto%20mp.htm) but they are out of stock so...

What other BCGs would you recommend as an alternative? This is for a lightweight frankengun.

Thanks!

Jim

LMT

Denny's Super Duty BCG

In that order. I have both and have been happy with both.

For the rifle I just gathered parts for I went with the LMT FABCG because from what I read here it's considered to be a quality BCG. I wanted another BCR (I have two of the BCG's already) but just could not find any, anywhere.

So I snagged the LMT from gandrtactical.

I recommend the Young Mfg. chromed BCG. It is chromed (less friction) and also much easier to clean.

The original AR10 Stoner design (before the AR15) called for a chromed BCG - anyone know why we've gone away from that?

Because chrome is shiny and not a good thing in combat. When I was in the service we had to replace any chrome carriers that came into our shop. Chrome bolts were ok.

I was just going to ask this same question. If the BCM was in stock(eta mid October), would you guys prefer that to the LMT? I have heard a couple complaints about the LMT BCG's but not one from the BCM's. It would be going on a BCM 16 Middy upper.

LMT BCG are good to go, as are Colt and some others. I'm not sure what the fascination is with dumping good BCGs for different ones, but it seems to be increasingly common with certain groups of people.

hk51pdx- Not speaking about you in the above group.

Just one take...

When I get the "oh no, I bought a BM/RRA/Stag before I knew better" thing from people, the #1 thing I tell them to do is get a better BCG like an LMT or BCM. Even if the one they have is already working just fine.

Why?

Because I think that everyone should have a spare BCG in their shooting bag. Forget all this "spare firing pin/extractor/spring/bolt/whatever, just get the whole damn assembly. Spare small parts are fine if space is an issue or if you're looking to keep them on the gun, but for a range bag having a complete spare BCG is the better thing. Given that you're going to have a spare, I think it's a good idea to buy the better quality part, and use the OEM as the spare.

LOL, no problem. The reason i was looking is that i had intended to get the BCM BCG and had it on my wishlist at Bravo with some other things. I purchased the G&R Tactical Pencil upper Grant is offering (no BCG) because i thought i was getting the BCM, but by then it was out of stock. So i ordered the LMT from Grant.

LMT would be my second choice, if you did not want to spend the money for Colt. Personally, I would just wait for the BCM to be available. M.H.O.

The way I have heard it is that LMT and BCM are EQUALLY good.

Agreed, but I'm a fan of having enough spare parts on hand to take care of a squad or 3.

I think people prefer the BCM , because when they receive them wheter from a dealer or Bravo themselves they don't look shot to s%^&t like the LMT . I have the LMT standard and FA BCG, they both look like they were run with some rounds on them. For me it's a good thing because it tells me LMT is at least doing some type of QC.:)

From reading on TOS, I do not believe that the LT bolts are HPT/MP'd. So that would put them below LMT and BCM.

FWIW, unless I just ordered the last one, Bravo Co. has their bolts, but they don't have the carriers. The bolt itself is the primary concern, so I'll just use mine in a CMT carrier I've already got and have staked myself. Just an FYI.

5pins, would that be the reason or factor of having the dust cover. to conceal the bolt? just wondering.

I'm really impressed with the high quality and workmanship of the FA BCG's from Bravo Company. If it isn't time critical, I'd back order it.

I agree. I looked at a few BCG's before ordering my BCM from Grant. I was and still am impressed with the quality of this unit....

Agreed with previous posters.

Having a extra BCG in your range bag will probably fix about 90% of any problem issues you run into at the range.
