View Full Version : I need help. Only keeping one
I just got two rifles in trade. I'm only keeping one. Just don't know which to keep. Top is a factory built mega 18". All mega all day. 2nd is a 16" cobalt kinetics b.a.m.f. Edge. Very cool. It don't think in need that much more of a rifle. Don't have the money to put proper glass on either one. Thoughts. http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee455/thetonk/33FC9DBF-2A7F-4195-8A9C-E2D4C1A1B596_zpsektdpkhn.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/thetonk/media/33FC9DBF-2A7F-4195-8A9C-E2D4C1A1B596_zpsektdpkhn.jpg.html)
Sell them both and buy a BCM or Colt instead.

This.. or a SR15.
if you "had" to pick one of those. The Mega. The wedgelock is a really nice rail.
Id keep the mega arms.
But id prefer an sr 15 or a bcm if i had the option to sell both.

I would sell both and go BCM or DD but if I was to keep one it would be the MEGA

Do you currently own an SPR? I know the Mega doesn't have as scope but it seems the bones are there for a really nice SPR. Also the Cobalt is too pretty for my tastes. . I'm not a fan of the fancy.

If you wont sell both, then keep the Mega and ditch the game gat.

Besides I like the parts on the Mega better. Looks like it's got an ACS or ACS-L stock, those lock up really tight. It's got my favorite brake - the Lantac Dragon. I know those parts are all replaceable but it seems the Mega is just set up nicer. Is that a standard Mega trigger anyone? Reminds me a little of a Lantac trigger.

I like the idea of selling both and buying an SR-15.
I have never met anyone that has bought an SR-15 and regretted it.

You can add my name to the list. SR15 is a great way to go.
Id keep the Mega. It actually looks like it could be a good rifle. I dont know the specs so I cant be sure though.
The other looks like the manufacturer chose looking cool over function. What's up with the stock? Why is the rail pointy at the front? What's up with the muzzle device?
If, as you say in your op, you're only keeping one, Mega, for sure. Billet ambi lower really looks interesting.
I believe that's an STR stock on the Mega. Trigger looks to be a Mega tactical.
Ditch the other one......several bad ideas rolled into one package.....

Of course it is. I don't know what I was thinking. There's no little storage compartment. That's pretty bad considering I've owned two STR's. Lol

If I had to make a choice I would only do so after I made a thorough check and shot them for function and accuracy. That said, I would attempt to unload them and get something else.

Just for my own education, why is that the general consensus? Sell both and buy something else? When I look at how they are priced, they are not that cheap. Are they novelties? For me I can see that Cobalt doesn't fit my style at all. Is it a quality issue? They aren't combat proven?

Bottom rifle looks like a very Instagram-esque build. Social media guns are full of useless Strike Industries type colored gadgets, ultralight LVOA looking rails and funky cerakote jobs.
Just send me the one you don't want

I initially wondered why so many would dump both, then noticed the Mega was 18". I personally have no use for that as it looks very heavy. So I'd either dump both or keep the Mega and buy another upper. I have no interest in the second rifle.

This would be my choice as well.

I agree with the nod going to DD.
Ill also jump in the boat and say sell both for an sr15.Ive got a few kac rifles and have zero regrets when it comes to buying them.

Mega makes excellent stuff. I would keep it and swap the barrel to 16", sell off the old barrel.
Edit: oops, just realized that is their 16.6" rail. Keep it if you like its configuration sell if you don't.
As much as I appreciate everyone telling me to sell them both and buy an sr 15. I already have two as well as a dd ddm4 v-11. I'm keeping one. Most likely the mega.
Based on all you've shared, sell both and pocket the cash.
I think that Mega looks like a badass rifle!?!
Based on what you've stated the mega looks like it would make a pretty slick spr

I don't like the design of the rail of the bottom one. I used to think that an 18" was that shiz nizzle, but have finally realized that a good 16" carbine can accomplish a lot. Since he has now revealed that he has other carbines I would sell them both and look at an SBR (if legal) and then use the funds for optics or other necessities.

cant go wrong with knights
Bottom one looks gay. Sell that one.
Neither one tickles my fancy. I'd unload them both. But really, I wouldn't have accepted them in trade in the first place. Now you're stuck trying to unload 2 niche market rifles... Especially the Star Trek phaser gun.

Make sense. That bottom rifle looks like it came off of a HGTV fashion show or something.
If the resale is as good as initial price or close to price he could get a really good SBR with a good optic.

That is an STR stock.
Yeah second look after someone pointed that out made me feel blind or with a bad case of DA. Especially since I've owned a couple of STR and an ACS... Geesh...

Is there such a thing as a factory built mega? It made me go to their website as they make great stuff, but didn't know they made one and there isn't one on their site.

To the best of my knowledge, no they do not. Why would Mega Arms, who has their own compensator, use a Lantac Dragon on their factory gun? The answer is they wouldn't.

It is factory built. I got the Rifle from Rob Romero who won it in competition

In that case, it makes the MEGA even more of a no-brainer, between the two anyways.
Personally, I'd recommend selling both and using the proceeds to buy an SR-15. In either case, you picked a terrible time to sell, as it's a buyers market. The best time would have been before November 8, but hindsight is always 20/20.
Best of luck!

Keep the MEGA! To those that aren't familiar with MEGA ARMS they make the nicest stripped uppers & lowers out there!
The MEGA/HODGE rail is 7075T6 aluminum. Finally someone got it right! I would never sell my DDM4V5 but I'd never sell your Mega to buy a DD or BCM if it were mine.

Might want to lock down your photobucket account a little better. Those text messages were funny.

I'm going to go ahead and shamelessly jump on the "sell both and buy an SR-15" bandwagon.
I am with the other guys. Sell both and buy a SR15, BCM, or DD rifle and a nice optic.
I will jump on the get the SR15 bandwagon

Broken record but sell both and SR-15
Or keep the mega.
