View Full Version : Need help ID a rail system by looking at the barrel nut
I have a salvaged rifle from a house fire. Owner does not know what happened to the rail nor what kind it was. I'd at least like the opportunity to see if it was a decent rail or not before I move on to a different system.

Appears to be Daniel Defense.

Looks like a DD rail as well. Probably a Lite Rail.
Thanks. I'm now wondering if the guy snatched it off to sell. I digress. So I should be able to get a DD rail and have little issues?

That backing plate with the 6 mounting holes is for a RISII rail. The DDM4, Slim, Lite 3, will not work. I do believe the older Lite rails use the same RISII 6 bolt design.

Yes, this. The nut and backing plate are either from the original DD Lite rail, or the RIS II. If it is anodized in FDE brown, then it is very likely from a RIS II. That barrel nut was also used on the shorter lived DD Omega X rail.

Yep. I just installed a DD RISII, it had that same 6 hole mounting pattern.
My AR10 Lite rail is a little different, but as the others said it's no doubt DD
