View Full Version : Coated BCG's.... What say you?
So I searched and didn't see a thread for this, but I didn't dive too deep. I've spent my whole life shooting mil-spec BCG's and scraping them after shooting. Now that I am shooting suppressed almost exclusively, I hate it that much more.
Gimmick or gadget? What's been your experience? Which coating?
As I'm sure you are aware, the BCG is the most important part of the M4. The use of quality components such as the extractor, extractor springs and quality material like 158 carpenter steel for the bolt and a bolt that has been MPT and HPT, along with proper gas key staking are essential. After that, the coating can add some benefits, under certain circumstances. If you periodically add lube to the BCG you will probably never notice a difference. If you run low round counts between sessions, on a standard 16" carbine or mid-length system, there is only marginal benefit. If you are running high round count, suppressed you will definitely notice a difference. For my suppressed guns I run Robar NP3 plated BCGs. They make it possible to go longer periods between lube, but not enough that I would replace my current BCM BCGs on 14.5/16" guns.
I say there's a metric shit ton (https://www.google.com/search?site=&source=hp&ei=VSVEWNwViZWPBLaNrZgP&q=bcg+coating%2C+site%3Am4carbine.net&oq=bcg+coating%2C+site%3Am4carbine.net&gs_l=mobile-gws-hp.3...17601984.17625111.1.17627644.32.32.0.1.1.0.678.7932.0j16j9j4j1j2.32.0....0...1c.1.64.mobile-gws-hp..1.17.3982.0..0j46j0i131k1j0i46k1j0i22i30k1j0i13k1j0i13i5i30k1j33i22i29i30k1j33i160k1j33i21k1.AJIhWN3elqM) of BCG coating threads.
