I'm struggling to find the part in the NFA handbook that describes which form is required and how much time a individual/trustee has to notify the ATF when changing addresses. If anyone knows which section it is under, would you provide a link or the section number please? Thank you.

ATF Form 5320.20

My last one took about 3 weeks to get back. You are able to put a window of time your items will be in transit.

Do you think 3.5 months is too long for the transit window?

Does this form apply if the change of address is intra-state?

Sorry, no clue. The first one I got approved in 2014 had a 2 month window.

They will accept up to a one year time frame. For example, if you frequented the same state for hunting, competitions, etc...you could submit 12/22/16-12/21/17. (Just have to make sure you don't put the same day for each year, as that's one year plus a day). Now, for a move you wouldn't need that long, but it shouldn't cause any problems. The reality is the form is for transportation, not possession. Their FAQ actually says (unless that item went away when they redid them) that if you take it out of state during the window, but aren't able to return in time, you just file a new one for the return trip.

If you've never filled one out before, I did a write-up in the 41F Forms thread: How to fill out a 5320.20 (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?186089-Work-In-Progress-new-F1-F4-guide-for-41F-submissions&p=2383484#post2383484).

Great info. We are thinking of moving in the next year or so.

There is no LEGAL requirement to notify the BATFE of an in-state move. Previously had you chosen to to do and needlessly clog up the system you could write a letter, Now it must be a 5320.20 as well.

Curious about this as well. So there is NO, zip, zero requirement to notify if moving and remaining in the same state? I've been givin both yes and no answers before so I've been torn on what to do. I'm about to move again in another month (again, same state) so I don't wanna send it more than I have to of required

The current forms say any change in address must be handled with the ATF.

However, neither the forms or the NFA Handbook are the law. The regulation itself simply covers interstate transportation.
