It been a while since I posted up a build, so here is my 12.5 do all, "one rifle" type of build. My goal was to create another do all type rifle with all quality components. Ive done some 11.5 and 13.7 builds that I was proud of on here, but it was time for a 12.5. Special thanks to Mr. Hodge for the HDSI parts. Thank you if you read this! Not much to say, besides this rifle will be a go-to, do-all, rifles for pretty much all my needs. I have a surefire M300C and KAC offset mount that I have not put on it yet, and I am still looking for a 99051 black KAC front sight if someone has one, PM me. This barrel was specifically chosen for the gas port size. My gauges measured .0635 and the "spec" on this barrel was .0650. Gas block journal is the standard .750 if anyone cares. As it is technically a LW barrel. The SOCOM Mini here is a duplicate as I couldn't turn down another Mini last year when they hit 799 bucks. It needed a home, and found this new 12.5. Still undecided if a CQB-L or other laser device will go on this one or not. For now, no, but there is always a chance. As of now, I have not put any rounds through this setup. I have no doubt it will be a awesome shooter, just like my previous 12.5 builds.

Comments, questions, like it, hate it, I am all ears.

Thank you. It was a fun build. This Wedgelock is climbing up there with my URX3.1's, Geissele MK1, and URX4 Mlok's as one of my favorite rails.

Thanks. I would buy another few at that price. The $799 deal was just too good to pass up. And it had a MD in the box. Wasn't expecting that.

Considering your fondness for the URX4 as we've discussed what was your reasoning going with the Hodge rail? The additional length to pair with the 12.5 or just something different?

Jwknutson17

I had the 10.75 URX4 and Vltor MUR1a in hand for this build. A fellow M4C member needed them for a 11.5 build, so PIF sounded like a better plan for those parts. I have 4 rifles with the URX4 mlok, and with the 11.5 rail length for this 12.5 build, I figured why not. Coupled with the generosity of Jim, this build got the HDSI parts.

I have almost a carbon copy of your build. The only thing different on mine is I used a vltor stripped upper and a razor 1-6. I too have started to love the wedgelock rails and now have 3 of the hodge rails on my guns.

Sweet! I am working on a similar build. Can't decide between a 12.5" barrel with the 11.5" rail or cut the barrel down to 11.5" and use the 10.75" rail. I'll either be using a Khales k16i SM2 or an Aimpoint t2 and snag one of their long eye relief magnifiers when the release.

I am not sure, but I think only Magpul offset scout mounts will work with the Hodge rail. WS6 tested out some others and said they didn't fit (KAC and Arisaka included). We talked about it in my Hodge gas-block thread but I have yet to verify.

Good to know. Thanks! I was going to toss on a set of the new clamp on KAC offsets like I put on my SR25, but already had the rear micro. But still might go the offset route.

I beat myself up all the time going to cut down barrels. Almost all my builds get cut down car barrels now. But the Centurion 12.5 has an acceptable size from the get go. They are night and day over the 12.5 BCM barrels. Have had a few and still have one kino build. Debated cutting this Centurion barrel down to 11.5 but with the many 11.5s I have already. It would just be redundant.

The one thing I really do like with the hodge upper is the anti rotation pin in the rail/upper. Even without the pin, or wedge, or set screws, when mocking it up, the rail is still very tight on the barrel nut and have to use force to just get it on. The tolerances are very tight/ spot on. The upper is very tight also. Had to put my barrel in the deep freezer and heat up the upper. And still had to tap the barrel in. Thing isn't going anywhere. Ever!

I also debated that Khales but went with the MK6 this time. Have had some time behind the MK6 but never purchased one for myself. I never liked the flicker effect but it never effected my actual shooting. Another Razor, or a M5Xi was on the list too. Couldn't pony up the cash for the M5Xi when I have no time behind the LPV variant. The 3-15 M5Xi on my Knight APC is excellent, and I'm sure the 1-5 would be the same. I'll save it for another build in 2017. Or if NF came out with a 1-8/10 that isn't CQBSS money, that would get my attention.

Can you give the pros/cons of each of these rails?

Can you give the pros/cons of each of these rails?

Every rail has its pros and cons, but what specifically are looking for? Pros for me might be cons for others and vice versa.. If you know what I mean.. I think the weight of the MK1 is a non issue. Maybe you think its a deal breaker. Specific applications for specific rails.

I have used various rails before settling on the MK1 as my favorite. Next time I was thinking of an mk4 or urx3 but the hodge looks impressive

Ill tell you why I like the Geissele MK1..

I like the Geissele rails for the design, construction, ergonomics of the MK1. Fits my hand perfectly. Not too wide and not too skinny. You could use it as a club/hammer and it wouldn't phase it. It has a large mounting surface on the barrel nut (huge plus), anti rotation set screws, machined perfectly, 10 inches long, minimal deflection/movement for mounting a laser, etc. Only con, is lack of direct mounting options and maybe the weight (not a con for me). The Geissele scout mount on the 45 eliminates this issue, but for anything else you are mounting a pic rail and attaching it that way. No direct mount hand stop or rail panels (if you even want that). But if you don't want to mount anything, you don't have to have anything on there either.

The MK4 was a little fat for my taste. The URX3.1 has the closet feel in hand to me as my mk1. I think I might even like it a little more as I mount the KAC panels with hand stop. Direct mount a Laser on the pic section, and use a gear sector scout mount that still allows enough clearance for the front sight and gets it up in that 45 slot.

I really like the integrated nut on the URX4, as I don't think the rail would ever shift or come loose as I have never seen a properly torqued barrel nut come loose from an impact of the rail. Ergonomics are great and plenty of options for Mlok mounting of accessories.

The Hodge is pretty skinny (Only complaint) as I prefer a little thicker rail, but it feels nothing like a KMR as far as material, construction, etc. Holding it, you can tell the thing is solid like the Geissele. The mounting system is awesome, especially with the anti rotation pin on the rail/upper. When I get some real time behind it, well see how I truly like it. So far, it seems like it is a very solid system.

How is this thing shooting? I am still debating cutting down my Noveske 12.5" carbine gas CHF barrel (.071" GP) to 11.5" but either way I will be using DIY gas-block port inserts so I can make whatever size I need. I am thinking .065" gas-port for a 12.5" and .067" gas-port for a 11.5".

Sadly I have been traveling for the last 5 weeks and have yet to be able to shoot this thing. Only time I have had is to step out and shoot suppressed pistol with some subs out back. Was planning to head out today, but the whole family is sick as can be.

You may want to consider a .065 for an 11.5 build with a A5h2 / colt spring setup. And puts you closer to the smaller end especially if you plan on running a can at any point.

Update: Just finished up the final pieces of the build. KAC front sight, Handstop, Surefire M300C, SR05 Switch, and KAC offset mount. The head is exactly touching but still will spin off for a battery replacement. It is literally 1/1000 of an inch from not working. Here a few pics of the final pieces put together.

Didn't post that I got it out for a spin a few weeks back and it ran without a flaw. Put a few hundred down range and ran a few drills with it. With the A5H3 and Green spring with the Mini Surefire, it's smooth as can be.

Range report from last weekend. Got a chance to stretch it out to 300 and 500 on steel plate. Mk262s flew nicely. Even with my ears all the way turned up, you couldn't really hear the plate at 500. It was freshly pinted black with a full dirt berm behind it, so I was able to see hits better through a spotting scope. They have big tire straps holding the 1/2 inch plate and the 77gr round doesn't do much to it. No wind which was very nice. At least I know that it has the legs to be a performer at 500. Very happy with this rig, as I thought I would be.

How do you like the SL-S stock? I picked one up to put on my SR-15 last week. I got home, went to put it on and the leaf springs inside were missing. I like the cheek weld but it's a bit bulkier than the STR. I bought the thing 90 miles from home so it's going to be a pain to return it. I'm debating on getting another one or just keeping the SL on it.

Love the stock. As much as I can so far at least since they haven't been out too long. I have them on 7 rifles now. Mostly SBRs that had The SL on it previously , and my SR25s have them also. They only have one leaf in them. At least every example I own has only 1.
