View Full Version : What happened to ADS rifles?
I was on the board a year ago or so and the general consensus at that time was that it was one of the best 'bang for your buck' ARs out there. I ended up going with an AK (ugh - trying to sell now), and I'm back in the market for an AR. I'd like to keep the basic AR under 1K, but could save more if really necessary. So far my choices are:
CD LE model - 950ish
ADS - 850ish
LMT in pieces - 1000ish
CMMG - 1000ish
BCM upper - 1000ish
colt LE6920 - 1300ish
Thoughts?
(FYI - I tried searching ADS - but it was too short to search)

For the money, the CD (in the lower $900 range) is the best value I think. You can also piece together an LMT for under $1k.

Pick up the Oct issue of SWAT magazine.
Pick up the Oct issue of SWAT magazine.
Okay - I'll try and grab one. Can you give me a hint in the meantime?

ADS rifles are the feature story.
Since Grant seems to be unwilling to honk his own horn, I'll have to do it for him.
Here's what you get

you'd need a front side sling attachment for the vickers sling and you'd need handguards for the LMT or BCM uppers
Get the magazines and ammo wherever you like

Thanks ADH - that helps.
I found the article in SWAT - the gun mag author liked the gun he was reviewing - didn't see that one coming. ;)
I guess I don't understand why all the buzz for ADS (more a year ago), and now CD - if for less than $100 more - I can get an LMT or BCM - which have been around for a long time and have proven track records.
What am I missing here? Heck for $1300 I can get a LE6920 locally with rear sight and two mags - only $270 more than a pieced together LMT - but of course that's now almost $400 than the CD...
Pieced LMT from link above -
upper - 485
lower - 340
bcg - 130
rear sight/carry handle - $50
(12) magazines - 30
total $1035
What would YOU (you, meaning anyone reading this) do? :D

Check your PM's
I'd get the BCM or LMT. If money were that big an issue I'd go for the CD.
I'm sure the ADS is nice, I just don't have any experience with them.

Heck for $1300 I can get a LE6920
And for $1,395, you can get a Noveske N4.
CMMG - 1000ish
I just got a custom CMMG for $814. Buy the upper and lower separately, and deal with one of their dealers (I bought from Pete at EBR or Bryan at AIM), and you can save a lot off CMMG's MSRP.

2 weeks ago Shooters Vault in Phoenix was selling the ADS Alpha 16 inch M4 for $799.99. :p
I'd like to thank everyone for their responses and PMs.
For various reasons, I'm going to save a little more and get an LMT upper and lower (prob from Grant).
It'll be another month or so before I have the funds, but that's the plan. :D

I'd just get a Charles Daly. Built right with a stand up guy running things that is easily accessible.
One of the reasons that ADS never made it onto the chart was that, at least at one time, Grant was buying them without the BCG and swapping in a better quality one. So, do I put the stock ADS rifle specs on the chart, or do I put the G&R version? And no matter which version I put, I'd have to explain it.
Since they are a relatively small player, I simply choose to leave them off. If they ramp up and start appearing more often, I'll rethink including them.

I would agree, the CD is a pretty good deal. I've been beating the snot out of one for a couple of months now and it's running like a champ. CD's presence on this (and others) site say a lot IMO.

ADS rifles are now being shipped with carriers that are properly staked, black extractor inserts and Crane O-rings.
In the past I would strip the carriers and make these improvements myself, but they are now shipping from the factory good to go.

Do you know if the botls are HPT/MP'd? The were not in the past and is why we did not order the weapons with BCG's.

what is also very nice on the ADS is the ceramic finish, this would probably cost the end user $200.00 alone . the bolt was no big deal for me as I just threw in a BCM M16 BCG and it was GTG. I have now (with the help of friends and family ) put over 3000 rounds through it without a hicup . this is a lot of rifle for the money . :D:D

M16 or AR15?
They are the "enhanced" AR15 carriers.
MP tested. I have an inquiry in as to the HP test. At this point, I can't answer that.

Even BCM doesn't HP test all their bolts (not that its a bad thing, I am just saying).

This is incorrect! They do infact HP every single bolt and also MP every single bolt.

The last batch of BCM bolts have ALL been HP'd. This where the confusion came in.
