Smith & Wesson Model 40

Anyone have experience with the NEW S&W Model 40("Lemon Squeezer")?? I would LOVE to get a non-Lock 642 or 442 , but I have an AR-15 on order and don't think that limited run will be around when I have the extra cash. However, the Model 40(because of the grip safety) has NO lock and while it's NOT an Airweight I'll deal with the extra weight not to have the IL. I think this revolver will still be in the S&W when I can make a purchase. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS J-FRAME ????????????????:)

I happened into an unbelievably good deal on a blued 40-1 a short while back. It handles quite well, and while I've only shot it a few rounds, it grouped remarkably well with Winchester 158 +P LHP.

I'm something of a J-frame fan. I have a old nickel 36, it's near twin nickel 34-1, two 642-1's, a 640-1, a 637 (my only S&W w/ lock), the 40-1 blued, and a 638. I would put the 40-1 up against any of them in fit, finish, and quality.

If you can save up some dough by October, Smith & Wesson has some no-lock 442s coming to RSR then.

DeerCop..........that's a beautiful gun. Like the "old school" Tyler T-Grips, too. Does anyone like Speigel or Eagle(Secret Service grips type) make stocks for the 40 yet?? I wonder if my old Eagle S.S. for my LONG-GONE 640 would fit. Anyway, GOOD LUCK with it!:D

Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure a custom maker could make some. Spegel was quoted as "working on" them, but I haven't seen any.

One guy not too far from me has taken a Dremel to his Eagle secret service grips, and made them fit. I have a bad history of using a Dremel to "improve" things, to the point I now leave well-enough alone.

I got mine for a very good price. :D A guy bought one, took to the indoor range at the gunstore, fired 30 rounds through it, decided he didn't like it, they wouldn't give him crap back for it, so he sold it to me, plus he included about $100 worth of defensive ammo he had bought for it - $425 cash. He even gave me the receipt from the store, showing the date of purchase and the amount paid, just in case I ever need any warranty work.


Normally they're mid-$500 range.
