You start to go numb when you hear about shootings on the news. Happens quite often here in San Antonio. Yesterday we had another shooting but this one was a bit different. Two men decided to rob the Rolling Oaks Mall in the middle of the afternoon. A retired Marine who was unarmed intervened and was shot dead by the armed robber. Before the two could flee another customer with a CHL took action and engaged them. This resulted in one of the robbers being wounded. The thief that wasn't wounded fled the scene while shooting behind him resulting in more wounded. Now there is public outcry about feeling safe when in public. There are also people who are concerned about concealed carriers. Seems that there are people that think it is better to let the bad guys have their way and depend on their mercy while they are robbing and pillaging. Funny how those that were at the Mall during the robbery and shooting wanted nothing more than a way to protect themselves and escape. Meanwhile those that weren't there are quick to blame the Good Samaritans for taking action.

"Well if she didn't want to get raped, she shouldn't have worn such a short skirt".

Attention, attention.

Being a criminal is not a real job. Acquiescence is not a real tactic.

All I know is while the initial Mr. Helper is dead....he bought time. One wounded means one to question. He'll flip.

Nobody brings guns to a robbery out of compassion and kindness.

If anything I hope this challenges people to stop toting gimmick calibers and unproven pistols and know that if you engage that you are committed and you may die.

El Prez and Dot Torture like it's your damn J-O-B.

I do not ever recommend putting your future and well-being into a stranger pointing a gun in your face and demanding things which do not belong to them.

Anyways.....I am not short nor bow-legged enough to live in Texas but California is

<---------

Thataway if guns and self defense skeer you. I'm sure the Brothas in Watts and the cholos in the Barrios will be more sensitive to your sensibilities when committing armed robbery.

Hope is not a strategy.

Local news didn't even mention the CCW... This was not an active shooter, this was a robbery. Once the robbers escalated , "Heat" rules apply- they can only fry you once. I understand not intervening if I am staring at a gun in a robbery at a store, but as soon as they start shooting, you are better of fighting. Head and body shots on the Samaritan? The BGs engaged till the threat was neutralized.

Just because another CCWer engages bad guys, and even if their shots go wide, that doesn't take away my right to CCW to effectively protect my family. Collectivist are always willing to let other people pay in blood or money for the good of everyone- as long as they don't have to pay. Why is this even a question about CCWing?

This is just another reason I tell my wife I don't go to jewelry stores..

Can you provide more info ref Mr. Jonathan Murphy (the Marine who was killed)? This part of the first story seems to describe protection of family rather than intervention:

Murphy was standing between her and one of the suspects. Jonathan tried to get in front of her.

"I think he was trying to stand in between to protect me, maybe protect the children. I don't know, I don't know what he was thinking. He didn't say anything and the guy just started shooting him," said Murphy.

The second story said 'intervened.'

Do you have any more info?

Texas should deal with these guys pretty quick, I hope.

Damn shame the retired Marine wasn't carrying.

Hate trading good men for scumbags.

We really should start leaving people like this for the birds.

Shit bags would likely think twice about being shitty after hearing home slice cry for days over town square.

Stories like this make me sick.

Here is some more info. The first is commentary but it has some important points. The second link discusses how S.A. malls have become hot spots. I rarely go to any malls these days. I do find myself heading back inside when I forget to holster up on the way out of the house. There have been four incidents at the mall since the beginning of the year. San Antonio is an equal opportunity city. The malls are located all over town. Hell La Cantera is the mall that you would expect to see George Strait, David Robinson, or members of Red McCombs or Tom Benson's families. Rolling Oaks is located on the Northeast side of town in an area full of middle class families. Not the place you would expect to find thugs and gangster. Just goes to show you that you BETTER be prepared to defend yourself and your family. The public blaming/shaming of people that do protect themselves whether they are armed or not is disgusting.

The rifle only comes out occasionally. It is hard to hide one in a Tacoma.
