Recently a friend was at my house and the topic turned to guns and gear, as it usually does.

We began discussing our likes and dislikes with gear relating to the AR15 platform, our likes and dislike, and what has and has not worked for us.

During this conversation my friend called me a "LaRue whore".

I smirked and explained that I purchased my first piece of gear, a LaRue ACOG mount in the early spring of 2004 and it was far superior to any ACOG mount that I had used up to that point. I then purchased a rail system, again it was far superior to any other rail system that I had used up to that point.

From that point until present when ever I've needed a rail system, optic mount, Surefire mount, etc. I have purchased LaRue products.

I even went about replacing the rail systems, optic mounts, etc. that I currently had with LaRue products.

In the last couple days I have been thinking about the "LaRue whore" comment that my friend made.

I know someone here has more LaRue Tactical gear than me.......Let's see how much LaRue gear you own (even if it's not more than what is posted below)

And now, it's time for the "Socialist Statement of the Day":

Why should USMC own all those wonderful carbines before ALL of us own ONE each of them???

Great guns and the LaRue gear only makes them better!

I may own a piece of LaRue gear or two, but I am again not allowed to post pictures, so you will just have to imagine....................:D :D .

In all seriousness, I am a quality gear whore, and LaRue is absolutely at the top of the food chain in the quality gear department.

Nice rigs specially with all those LaRues on them.

I only have one so far, a 9.0 rail and I'm a LaRue fan after I installed it myself, it went on smooth.

I plan on getting more to upgrade my optics and light mounts, and more rails for my next builds.

I just finished selling the ARMS 17 mounts on a number of SF M962's to upgrade to LaRue. Ended up $23 out-of-pocket for each. The LaRue mount undoubtedly increased the resale value on the 9v Surefires. Scout lights are nice. I have one with a LaRue mount and one with the SF screw. With enough loctite, the screw mount is OK. It just isn't as good as LaRue.

I think I have issues. Never added it up before. And I forgot a petting zoo's worth of 'dillos

Customer service in this country is like some form of lost black art. People are just flat out rude, non-responsive or have a "I can't be bothered with you because you are insignificant" attitude. I got MFed at the McDonald's drive thru the other day by some drug addled, high school drop out for Christ sakes.

No matter how, much I have purchased, I realize in the big picture I am a drop in the business bucket for LaRue. Yet, every time I call, I'm treated like I'm a purchase agent with carte blanche buying power for the U.S. Military. Throw in that, IMHO, it is the best equipment of its type available and there ya go.

With all the LaRue users here, why is there no banner at the top of the page?

It bothers me, as a taxpayer, that issue gear has ARMS mounts and then userers spend unit funds to replace that crap with LaRue. How much ARMS stuff, that should have never been bought, is shit-canned?

Same here. I work for a small investigation unit. We are low volume purchasers and probably LaRue's smallest account, but we know that Mark, Mike and Shanna want us to have the best equipment available. With our low volume of purchases, we know that they can't be making any money on us. :)

Besides, Mark is a blast to speak with, and I know that he is truly committed to making the best products available. Also, the dillos make great gifts

The LaRue upper is out, and the barrel is soon to be released. If a lower is down the pike, I hope to building my "mostly-LaRue" rifle.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but given the state of the MIC and the aquistion system at this point, I'd say we'd be much better off to just authorize COTS purchase by units on alot of gear. Rather than have Natick and crew wasting time and money developing something that'll be outdated by the time it's fielded, they get the best stuff when it's available. However, being the cheep b**tard I am, they could throw that ARMS stuff my way. :D

K.L. Davis
10-21-06, 23:02
To some extent, COTS purchases are being made... depending on the unit and amount of course, but as an example, we have very broad latitude in our purchasing of a lot of gear.

The downside to COTS is that while businessmen think in terms of "dock to stock" -- I don't have to tell you that we have to think about "box to battle". If a show stopper is going to pop up, I far prefer it to pop up at some training/testing center.

There does need to be a balance of "most current" and "most proven" that is probably not being addressed right now, but there are ideas in how to get there... LT makes solid stuff, but not everyone does, maybe offline we can discuss some recent history where COTS weapons/parts have failed, and with a bad outcome.

Gunzilla, what types of COTS stuff is the Coast Guard buying lately and should I be paying closer attention to it ? Am I "missing the boat" over here ?

Morning Mark... as you stated, DTS is a in house QC term in which the final product speaks for itself -- but there is no assurance to the end user that it was tested in any way, shape or form as to how he/she will be using it.

As for what we are doing and how we are doing it, hit me up off line. I am waiting for a taxi right now to go to Coronado to give some LE training, but I will be back next week and we can talk.

Like I said, you guys seem on top of real world application... but not everyone is.

Top-O-The-Morning to you too,

DTS (Dock-To-Stock) in our production machining world means that the customer has gotten tired of never being able to find fault/issues, QC-wise, with our work and has decided it's useless and a waste of time to look and that the stuff might as well go straight on into inventory...hence from their dock, straight on into their stock-room. Here at LT, we aim to please and "dead-nuts-on" is what we shoot for. :-)

Mark

P.S. I knew that pic was a Garmin sitting in a ground-bound vehicle ... ;-)

Most of the manufactures listed above are house hold names in the tactical world. Eagle Ind. is also a sponsor, but no banner yet. They don't need to do ANY advertising IMHO, but are here.

M4C offers sponsors something that NO OTHER FORUM does. Print media advertising. Manufacturers receive a banner, fixed tab, their own forum and their logo in half page color ads in such mags as SWAT, Combat Tactics, Book of the Black Rifle and ShotGun News. All for the lowest advertising rate of any of any forum.

Last but not least, we don't let them get trolled like they do on "other" forums. Most signed up for that reason alone! ;)

Guys,

I gotta tell you a story.

When we first waded into the mount business, Larry Bullock, a giant of a man, both figuratively and literally, came up to me, introduced himself, and said "We're all sick of that so-and-so and the %8#@ he makes, and it's about time somebody took his sue-happy a$$ on, we're all wishing you the best of luck".

Larry's comments that day gave me some great situational awareness and helped formulate my attack plan. :-)

My second LaRue so far, an EOTech QD mount for my EOTech 551 on my LMT Defender 2000 M4 carbine, my first was my 9.0 FF rail on my other AR-15A3 middy tactical carbine

Oh, I almost forgot about the other two LaRue things I got for free which are a khaki tactical cap and a tactical field survival device ('Dillos). :D

So, is it a Full-Auto or did they get the SHTF on their for poops and giggles. I sure liked it.

poo boy huh? :D

Are mark's mounts different than KACs? I think I've even seen po boys that don't even line up with LT Aimpoint mounts. I don't get it.

What did the po boy mags have in them? It was a tank ranging reticle, was it like the PSOP scopes or different? it would be neat to have ranging reticles in the magnifier that flipped out of the way for a clean aimpoint but not if they were totally inaccurate or unusable for aimpoints...

The LaRue pivot magnifier mounts are about .050" higher than the KAC but still works fine.

Later on I might have to upgrade my KAC mount for either a LaRue std or cantilever Aimpoint mount, so I would have a better more secure QD lever mount.

In some threads at TOS they were saying that the "poor boy" magnifiers are Hensoldt 2.5X tank ranging reticles that was factory refurbished to remove the reticles and resealed.

My Hensoldt magnifier came with a factory German packaged carton box with desiccant, desiccant moisture test strip, some kind of fiber type foam cushions and the magnifier was wrapped in a very thin white paper, the box was wrapped in an aluminum-thick paper wrapper with German markings.

The Hensoldt magnifiers are actually about 25mm tube diameter with a 30mm shim, some have the extended eye rubber cover and some like mine don't have it.

Having ranging reticles on a magnifier would be a nice feature but only if it could be calibrated/ zero with the Aimpoint or other dot sights.

This a new gun that was just completed within the last month. I purchased the lower late last fall and finally had the funds to finish purchasing the upper, rail system, and BUIS (had the light already).

I have found over the years that for most applications I prefer a 14.5" M4. My origional plans were to just keep this gun set up with iron sights and keep it in my truck. But sometimes plans change.

Last month during Pat Rogers 3 day EAG Tactical Carbine Course I shot high multiple shooter and second high over all. With that scoring, I won a LaRue Tactical Aimpoint mount and a coyote Viking Tactical VTAC sling. Thanks to both Mark LaRue of LaRue Tactical and Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactical for supporting both Pat Rogers (EAG Tactical) and the shooting community!!!

This is my only AR that doesn't have an optic on it. I couldn't let the LaRue Tactical Aimpoint mount go to waste. So last week I ordered a Aimpoint ML3 and a Tango Down Vertical Foregrip for this gun.

New pics to be up soon

I've bought just two items off LaRue my 13.2 inch rail, and an Aimpoint mount. They have made in incredible impression with me, not only through their products but also through their customer service. Any future need for a light/mount will be filled by LaRue, no question about it. I just wish LaRue made more products so I could buy more of their quality accessories, I'm not about to buy something I don't need, I just wish they manufactured the accessories that I DO need.:( I'd much rather go to them for all of my BRD needs.

All Hail Larry !!!

Mark

P.S. Larry, you were truly an inspiration and I and this industry sorely miss you. You will not be forgotten. Rest in peace.

Truer words have never been spoken ! On ARMs and on Larry !

Sub,

X200A. Two reasons I chose it....I had it on hand and I prefer the more focused beam of the A model.

At first I didn't care for the A model but when looking for a suspect in a large open field last summer I was suprised at how much "throw" the A had due to the focused beam.

I've got a total of (3) X200A lights.

-One pictured on the M4 above,

-one that is dedicated for my duty gun (a glock 19 + X200A that rides in a Blade Tech holster...I work plain clothes)

-and the last one is on my SWAT gun (a glock 17 + x200A that rides in a Safariland 6004....pics of this can be seen above....I used a Glock 34 / 35 for my SWAT guns for years, but when I made the switch a couple years ago to the X200's, I had to change to a G17 because Safariland doesn't make a holster for the Glock 34 + X200)

Hello from a newb, I also love LaRue and here is my collection of their fine products. It consist of their 12 inch FF rail and then there is the scope mount and the LaRue low profile gas block under the FF rail. This is my first build and I actually did the assembly myself. Heck I even got the red LaRue Christmas Dillo for being a member of "Team LaRue"

Jeff, do you have a pic through the S&B scope showing where the reticle is in relation to the front sight post? We've discussed this before, I went with the 1.93" mount for my 1.5-5 scope to get a clear sight picture but after using my Aimpoint I wonder if I can get used to the obstructed view?

I called LaRue today and was going to order a LT104 but the guy said it would not work with the 1.5-5 and a front sight tower. He then said they didn't reccomend the 1.93 mount unless you were needing it to clear the PEQ. I'm confused as always but don't want to change out my other mounts and have to sight in again. I use 1" scopes if that makes a difference.

My setup works now but I switch guns and need to remember different zeros, it'd make things alot more simple if all were the same. Sorry for the hi-jack but here's my contribution.

I'm adding this pic to see if the 1" tube makes a difference, it seems closer to the Aimpoint than the LT104 mount.

TWR,

Sorry but I don't have any pics through the Short Dot. I've tried taking pics through optics in the past, but my pic-fu is lacking.

There was a recent discussion in the optics forum (within the last couple weeks) about the 1.5 vs. 1.93. The front sight tower sits in the bottom 1/3rd of the tube and is somewhat blurred on 1.1x with the SPR-E mount.

In short it's an awesome stock, especially on a 16" mid-lenght. Balances out the gun extreemly well. Major improvement over the M93B, and I was a big fan of the M93.

As soon as I my Sabre lowers come in (from Grant) I'll be ordering more Magpul UBR's for some upcoming projects.

Take care and stay safe,

-Jeff

Or is it Mark LaRue? Either way, my name is Mark and I'm a "Mark" for LaRue Tactical. That could be considered blasphemy here in the Bay State - home of ARMS.
God there's some beautiful rifles on this site - inspirational.

I'm new to the AR-15 accessory game, but not new to LaRue Tactical. After a lemon ARMS on my SOCOM 16 with my Trijicon Tripower, I threw in the towel and began searching for a mount that would be well made, functional and hassle free. A friend recommended LaRue and I never looked back. Mark will have my business for the foreseeable future. The QD LT-150 mount that my Tripower sits in has to be one of the most well-engineered mounts I've seen - it eclipses in both build quality and functionality my old ARMS. Plus, the fact that Mark answers his phone may seem insignificant to some, but it's a factor to me. Mark was gracious and informative - answering all my questions and shipping me my 150 promptly. Plus, upon opening the package, I was surprised to find it complete with extras - nice touch - class act. When it comes to mounts, my location is Massachusetts, but my money goes to Texas....

(Disclaimer: The dot in the Aimpoint is 2 MOA, and the camera is set too far away from the 3x Magnifier for proper eye relief (thus the large black circle in the optic). The pictures were taken to show how the LaRue Pivot mount looked from the shooter's perspective.)

NICE PHOTOS!

So for Valentines Day, the wifey orders me a LT-105 compact ACOG mount for my TA33R-8. Package arrives yesterday. And inside, I find...

LT-400 Baseball Cap
LT-205 Tactical Beverage Entry Tool
LT Battlefield Mixer
2 - Bumper Stickers: "God Bless Our Troops... Escpecially Our Snipers"
3ml bottle of Machine Gunners Lube

And best of all... 4 oz. bottle of "DilloDust" BBQ Dry Rub!!!

Then I realized why I got this package. Carefully wrapped inside was the LT-105 compact ACOG mount. This mount is worth every penny... well engineered, finely machined, every detail seems very well thought out, beautiful workmanship. Included with the mount: 3/8" wrench for adjusting tension, hefty 5/32" allen screw and allen key to replace the ACOG's 1/8" allen screw, and a small tube of blue thread locking compound. The mount was installed on the ACOG and on my carbine within 5 minutes.:D

EXCELLENT PRODUCT.

You pretty much summed up exactly what s wrong with the DoD procurement system. As one of Murphy's Laws of Combat says: "You equipment is made by the lowest bidder."

Now back to the original thread, the Larue stuff I own are:

- Aimpoint M2/M3 cantilever mount (LT129)
- Aimpoint Micto mount (LT660 )
- Forward Universal Grip (LT-FUG)
- Offset flashlight mount (LT-606)
- BUIS (LT103)
- Nightforce 1x-4x NXS SPR-S mount (LT-158)

Between Larue, MagPul, an Aimpoint; I'm going to end up in the poor house. :(

I havent a lot of time with it yet. So far, I'll say that it is difficult for me to use the notch at the top of the sight due to how close it is to my eye. I'll probably get used to it once I have more time behind it.

Remove the small set screw located on the front of the sight then unscrew the sight itself. Replace the aperature, then reassemble. The hardest part for me was locating the correct size hex wrench to remove the screw.

John,

You can't go wrong with either the ML3 or the T1. I used the ML2 / ML3 series since early 2002 and was using the Aimpoint Comp M and Comp XD models before that.

I really like the size and weight of the T1.

If I were buying a new optic I would go with the T1. If I had a ML3, I wouldn't sell it to get a T1.

LT129 vs. LT150. If using a magnifier, you will need the LT129. I have used both quite a bit, and it comes down to personal preference.

Very nice photos! Is the handgaurd in this photo painted? If not, who makes it and where would one make a purchase?

The handguards are not painted. I purchased them through the CavArms website.

There are a lot of members here who take much better pics than I do. There are a lot of members here who have much nicer firearms / optics / accessories / gear / etc. than I do.

It's not about ego, and I have no intrest in competing with anyone.

I'm just a dumb Detective who likes to contribute when I can.

Well be that as it may you take damn good pics and have some nice weapons.
I can't wait to have Larue gear to put on here the only Larue Item I have is the ornament they sent me last Christmas...

Also Jeff if it weren't for you I think that half of the threads I get on would loose half of the posts or at least that is the way it seems.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_6SvS1qLeQoc/SpdqXTQa-bI/AAAAAAAAAEg/p-W_Qjc3rI8/s800/HPIM1362.JPG

Here's how you do it.

1) Go to the pic that you want to use, put your cursor on the pic, and RIGHT click

2) A window will come up, click on PROPERTIES

3) Another window will come up and you can see the URL Address. Highlight the entire URL address (often times the URL address will be 3 lines long, but in the window you will only see the first tow lines, so keep scrolling down with your highlighter until you have the entire address...... most will end in .jpg). Once you have the entire address highlighted - COPY

4) In your reply use [QUOTE=U.S.Cavalryman;441646]I am still trying to get this whole embedding thing figured out............ this: [img] at the front and at the rear of the URL. It will look like this WITHOUT the spaces between the boxes and the URL: [img] http://lh3.ggpht.com/_6SvS1qLeQoc/SpdqXTQa-bI/AAAAAAAAAEg/p-W_Qjc3rI8/s800/HPIM1362.JPG

Sounds complicated until you've done it a few times, then it's very easy.

Hope that helps.

A fair amount of LaRue here.

Been thinking about putting a 9" LaRue rail on my carbine...how do you get around the keeper vs gas tube issue?

My only bit of LaRue gear is on my 870 (not counting the cool 'dillos, hats, and shirts he sent! :) ). My M4 had DD mounts and sights. My next rifle however....

The return to zero standard has proven to be true with this rig. My thanks to those here who've driven the "accept no substitute" mantra into my head.

Thanks Pat. I just use a white piece of foam board or poster board. White packing paper / butchers paper, etc. would work as well.

Just out of curiosity, what rails did you have before pruging for Larue?
I love larue, but I doubt I would go through and replace all of my Lite rails for Larue.

Over the years I have used KAC (standard RAS and free floated), Daniel Defense, PRI, VTAC, Midwest Industries, LaRue and several others.

In late 03 and in early 04 I had a couple different rails come loose on me, and that is what prompted me to switch all of my rails over to LaRue rails.

Use products that you have confidence in and are best suited to your needs / personal preferences / mission statement / etc.

USMC03- you have stated the reasons of quality and durability on the larue rails. does the hieght and width of larue rails vs. hand size play at all into your decisions on picking rails- just curious for my own knowledge. thanks brad w.

I only have one rifle, but I have an invoice here from Larue that says I purchased $1162 dollars worth of stuff from them... One was a Micro H-1, and some were Magpul XT panels. I also got a: 'dillo (figured I might get a free one, and I did, but it was pink, and now my ex has it), a 12.0 HG, an H-1 tall mount, and a mount for a SF 6P. Also got a Larue LP gas block. BCM and Larue, VLTOR and Magpul make a great looking, functioning, and feeling rifle.

I have three rails, two mounts and climbing fast. Great products and I am envious of all the Larue products Cohiba and many others have.

I own several Sun Devil uppers and unfortunately Larue rails will not fit on them with the "locking nut clamp" installed. Sun Devil offered to give me some uppers in the white so I could machine slots for the screws, but I just do not think the slots would look good. I may try it in the future just to find out.

That's because your camera is trying to not overexpose the white background when it exposes the object. The same thing happens when you try to take pic of someone in front of a bright window.

Flashes come in handy for this.

I have used many different rails, and all my AR's, except for LWRC, have Larue Rails. I have assembled my uppers for my friends, and I recommend Larue Rails over others. I like Daniel Defense, but my preference is for Larue products:D
