I have a friend that was just appointed as the top cop in his country in Africa.

I want to buy him a pistol to mark this achievement.

The only criteria for this purchase is it needs to be 9mm and mind blowing.

So I am turning to the forum for suggestions.

To ME- A nice, two-tone, worked over & slicked up Browning Hi-Power with maybe some engaving..some fitted mags...a nice custom holster..would be tits.
Never owned a Hi-Power..but the ones Ive shot felt like they were made for my hand and were always accurate and 100% reliable.
And, I like the two-tone look on them very much.
Put that bad boy in a nice, wooden velvet lined case...something akin to what S&W used to do back in the good ole days, and there you go,
INSTANT CLASS.

What's available to purchase there and what's the budget? I agree a Novak/Yost or similar hi-power never goes out of style.

In that case I would buy him a piece of history...say a SAA with some legit provenance...

A new Sig P-210 would be a classy gift, accurate, practical, enviable at the next outdoor impala roast and Tusker beer swill.

I like this angle, so I will start doing some shopping.

If anyone finds a pistol, that fits having legit provenance pass it on please.

But please keep giving me more ideas. I will not know the correct one until I see the idea and it blows my mind.

Two Nighthawk Hi-Powers in a velvet-lined walnut presentation case, with 30 extra magazines to go with it.

Don't forget leather...Kramer holsters, belts, and mag pouches.

Why not a custom built hand engraved 1911 chambered in 9mm. The pistol would be one of a kind, personalized specifically for your friend. Not only would it be a gift that he would cherish for the rest of his life but it would also be a fond reminder of your friendship.

This looks like a cool high end 9mm, a 1911 mixed with a beretta 92 http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/03/03/breaking-leaked-photos-new-wilson-combat-x9-pistol/

No budget.

The Costa comp gun from sti, or one of the threaded versions with a surefire, griffin rev9, milled for an rmr (already mounted), some good mags and a crate of 147gr gold dots, and 2 crates of 147gr lawman.

Edit - the "Costa h.o.s.t". It's a 2011

I always had a thigh for 2011s but can't justify it. Historic guns don't do it for me. You know him, if he's more into something else, go a different route, but this is something that could be practical if hes mechanical.

The Sphinx 3000 or the Pardini gt9 are also other good high quality options that are not to common.

If I got to be the Chief of Africa PD and Yoni wanted to treat me to a 9mm pistol.....

I'd want that CZ 75 Shadow Tac II.

I'd even tote that sucker too in a shoulder holster. (I live and die by my G21).

It's classy but menacing and presently the only steel 9mm I would want.

It's current and not some wall hanging antique.

But that's just me. I would want blood red VZ grips though.

Another vote for Heirloom Precision, thinking mastodon ivory stocks, Turnbull finish, a brace of matching 9mm Combat Commanders, plenty of spare parts, fitted in a blue velvet and a mahogany case, and cases and cases of Winchester 9mm NATO ball.

I'd go with a 9mm 1911 from any one of the top custom smiths. You could pay "to go to the front of the line" and still be well within budget. I've always considered the 1911 to be the best "gift gun" due to the almost infinitely customizable nature, and recognition anywhere in the world. Non-gun people see a nice 1911 and know that it's something special.

Do want to get him something he can actually carry while on duty, or just something really cool that he can pull out of the safe and show his buddies? There is a beautiful cased Colt 1849 pocket revolver in the March Amoskeag Auction catalog.

Remember " it needs to be 9mm and mind blowing". Precludes a revolver, or most in this case. I don't think a robo gun is in order in this case either, no matter how much cool factor.
Someone suggested a Hi Power earlier which I think would be in order.

Will there be difficulty exporting it? If so, maybe a diplomat could take it back.

I suggest a brand that can more easily be serviced there. Browning HP tops that list followed by a CZ. If a CZ, then you can buy an already customized one from Cajun Gunworks or CZ Custom. Cylinder and Slide may offer the same in BHP. You might include extra firing pins, springs, grip screws, and magazines. While you're at it, have Robar refinish it and/or customize it too.
