View Full Version : Buffer tube "lip" past lower?

Noticed that my buffer tube was actually 1 revolution looser than it should be and was just barely engaging the buffer retaining pin, so I loosen it up and screw it in and it looks as if coverage is solid now:

However I noticed the tube extends past the threaded portion of the lower. It does not seem to cause any issues just test fitting the upper and racking the bolt but none of my factory ssembled lowers are like this (this build is Aero lower, BCM tube and hardware).

The "lip":

I'm guessing it's fine but just wanted to confirm.

Thanks!

As long as the pin was being held down by the RE I see no reason to to give it another turn. I would have left it unless it was hanging on by just a thread? If your upper still closes down fine and doesn't contact the RE, then just run it. Your first picture looks like a total non issue, but the second may be a little deceiving because of the angle?

Sorry, should've clarified, the first and second picture are of the rifle with the RE threaded in exactly the same.

Before (I do not have a picture of it) the RE was only over the buffer retaining pin by a sliver and I foolishly did not realize the retaining pin was not covered properly a few months back when I assembled it initially.

It was previously only a few thousandths of RE covering the pin and the pin ended up sitting very slightly higher than it should've been and this actually was gouging my buffer slightly.

Now the amount of RE lip covering the pin is the same as my factory 6920 lower, to me it just looks a bit funny now with the RE threaded that far into the lower.

As long as the upper closes . . .

How the hell can it close on that?

Like regular.

That's why they put that 3/4 inch radius on the upper, to clear that sort of variation....

As long as the upper closes, I doubt it will be a problem.
