View Full Version : Is this barrel scrap?
Just received a barrel from a user on another site and noticed the chamber is heavily scratched, mostly in the shoulder area https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170410/54d0fc81de2e956d6d2e80a0ebaef461.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170410/1bea50ea860f68753fd9cfb03cb5594a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170410/fc60c8aa4918d51052325099e392986a.jpg
What I'm worried about is extraction issues. Shot 30 rounds through it and no issues, but I'm worried about problems when the barrel heats up.
Could this be polished out?

I wouldn't consider it scrap personally.
I wouldn't want that barrel. It looks like the chamber wasn't cut proper at all.
Is it under warranty? If is is, get them to replace it.
No warranty, bought from equipment exchange on another site. Seller stated he got it on trade and never shot it. It's a 20" govt profile E MP 1/7 marked barrel.
Believe it's an EMCO. I didn't know of the issue with EMCO military barrels until after I made the purchase

I did a search of EMCO, it looks like some sort of army surplus outfit. Who knows who actually made this barrel. Is it chrome lined? If not, a good gunsmith might save it.

Here's a link about the EMCO barrels. Apparently they were replacements for the military.
Mabey somebody will see this and not make the mistake I did.
The barrel is chrome lined

How did it shoot?
Did you take the photos before you installed it or disassemble after firing?
The pictures were before I installed it. I was shooting at an embankment just to see if it would extract.
It has rifle feed ramps and I threw it on an m4 upper just to shoot it. When I receive my rifle receiver in the mail I'm going to re assemble it and see how it shoots then.
I feel like accuracy should be okay, I'm just worried about extraction with the rough chamber.

Looks like typical-albeit a little on the rough side- machining marks in the chamber. If the chamber was going to have extraction problems, they should have showed up right away. If anything the chamber will get smoother as you shoot it. If the barrel delivers acceptable precision, just shoot it until you wear it out
Manufacturer? Try talking to them. I would shoot it until I had a problem, then I would address the problem.
I'd chop it up into pieces.
Seriously shoot it until it fails or earns your trust. I don't think it looks that bad. If you got a good deal, rock on.
If it runs, then just shoot it till it doesn't. Are you worrying about a problem or a possible problem that hasn't manifested itself yet, and maybe never will.

This^ I had a barrel that was rough in the feed ramp area but functioned fine. The more I shot it the better it became.
