View Full Version : .38 Special vs. Prince Rupert's drop
In a previous thread I linked to a video of the Smarter Every Day YouTube channel shooting a .22LR at a Prince Rupert's Drop. There is a great descriptive video of what the drop itself is and why it works the way it does. Check that out first (and the 22LR video) before you watch this if you haven't seen it.

So up the caliber to a .22 Mag and .38 Special - think it will still destroy the bullets?
The next video is supposed to be a follow up with 5.56 and 7.62x39.

I have never heard or known what a "prince rupert's drop" until just now, and now I don't care. I don't know what they guy was on to make him so excited. Just wasted 3 minutes of my life (I fast forwarded and skipped a bunch of that video).
The SED channel is a must follow.
The Transparent Potato Gun is a good view as well.

Finally!!! That is totally insane! I was wondering if he would ever up the caliber from 22LR.
It shattered the bullet but more surprisingly didn't shatter the drop from the tail vibrating it to pieces. How freaking hard are those things!?
Sam, you having a bad day or something?
My son turned me on to this about 7-8 months ago. The physics of it are quite fascinating.

Sarcasm? It's seemingly indestructible glass. Normal glass, it's fascinated people for centuries.
No sarcasm there. I'm serious.

Way to be a curmudgeon.

That was very cool. I subscribed so I could see his next video.
It reminds me of that scene on Superman Returns where Superman gets shot in the eye point blank. Except here the round shatters.
Pretty darn cool
Bumping this as the next step up is on youtube. 223, 762x39 and 54. Tannerite at the end as well.
There is a bonus side explanation that is really cool as well. Never heard of or know about some of this stuff, and I should. Awesome channel.

Guy puts a drop in a hydraulic press and gets to almost 20 tons before it breaks. It actually dented the press tool.
