Put together a light(er) weight gun.
With advancing "geezerhood", two blown rotators and arthritic hands, I was hoping for an end result that would be fully a pound lighter than most of my other AR's.
I had most of the parts lying around unused.
I used an older RRA's lower that I changed out the commercial buffer tube for a milspec. The ability to use a greater variety of stocks was my reasoning.
Running a pretty standard Sprinco Blue and H2 buffer.
I'd had good luck with BA Hanson profile barrels in a 14.5" build and went with their 16".
Installed a Precision Armament M4-72 muzzle brake- as this was to be dedicated range/competition gun. They have proven very effective- shooting really flat, but the concussion is brutal. A poor choice for a SD gun.
A Toolcraft BCG was installed.
Used a 15" KMR-A.
I used a Trijicon MRO that I had with an ADM mount. BUIS are MI.
Gun has a 3# Timney- it's a range gun.

Overall I deem it a success.
It is about 18 oz. lighter than my lightest 16" gun that has a LPV.
Accuracy was "good enough". Since it's a "range gun" and our range has a 100 yd. berm only- I used Wolf Gold.
I would likely never shoot this beyond 100 yds. and the intended purpose was for a 50 yds. and in "hoser".
I did throw a 4.5-14 Leupold on it to see what it would do with"real ammo".
The best 5 shot groups were; IMI 69 gr. Razor Core in at .75" for and Speer 64 gr. GD was .90" for 5 rounds.

Nice build. Last year, I decided to build a lightweight AR as well. This one came in at 5lbs. 14.7ozs (w/o magazine).

Nice work.

My "lightweight" was an attempt at dropping over a pound, while using a lot of the spare crap I had on hand.
The barrel, KMR-A and a few small parts were my total out of pocket on this.
I exclude the parts on hand, which were purchased much earlier- because I'm a gun guy.
As such, I am allowed to justify, rationalize and minimize.

I keep several small parts in a storage bin, but I try not to keep uppers, lowers, handguards, and a few other items laying around. They tend to turn into complete ARs for some reason. I usually order just what I need for a build. It was good that you had some stuff on hand that you could repurpose. I will have a dilemma soon. I will have a spare lower, upper, charging handle, and BCG that I will have to build something with. Oh what a dilemma.

Sage advise.

Best wishes on your next build. :)

Amen. Funny how that happens...
