Have googled around and not seeing anything obvious so I figure it's worth a post to see if anyone has McGuyver'd a solution

Trying to find a way to have a more easy-on/easy-off protector for the typical mini RDS that has no extra tube length for something to grab onto.

Which RDS?

I'm running the tango down io cover on my T1, it's also available for the MRO.

For sake of an example, the mini style like this

I wasn't aware of this https://www.amazon.com/Tango-iO-001-Aimpoint-Sights-Scopes/dp/B00WRIK9ZO ... I'm thinking I can trim to fit my Sig Sauer mini RDS I have, thanks!

For anyone curious, this is the only one I'm aware of for RMRs:

OP, the topic would be more appropriately placed in the Optics subforum.

Any other options than the Tango Down model-specific cover?

What about something like a scopecoat?

http://shop.brownells.com/optics-mounting/optic-accessories/protective-scope-covers/scopecoat-for-aimpoint-micro-t-1--sku268000020-79652-62600.aspx?cm_mmc=PPC-_-Itwine-_-Google-_-268-000-020&gclid=CKmSs5-06NMCFVVYDQodC9MMfw

Use one for my ACOG, mostly for storage and transpo.

Use one for my ACOG, mostly for storage and transpo. Good option. It doesn't show they make a one short enough for mini RDS, but I'm sure this will help others. Thanks.

They have one listed for an Aimpoint Micro, about the size of the Sig micro optic you posted a pic of.

An old bike inner tube and a pair of scissors will make dozens of covers better than most you can buy.

That is an excellent idea! I just have a thing for clever, McGuyver-like solutions. Gotta' think thru how I would cut for easy on & off.

I just cut them straight about 2" wide. Trick is to find a tube that is just big enough without being too tight. Motorcycle shops are a good source. The trash cans are full of old tubes. Very few people patch street bike tubes.

I interpret what he said as the tube goes "around" the RDS, in a manner like if you places a plastic cup over it ...

Thanks, that would work well for storage. I'm going to see if I can get a bit fancier with it.

Not my picture but here is a link to one. You are essentially cutting a wide rubber band and stretching it over the scope. Not exotic but no big deal if you lose it. https://www.beartoothbullets.com/tips/archive_tips.htm/4

I have one of the Scopecoats for my H1. It does what it's supposed to do. Easy to quickly pull off, takes a bit more to put back on without smudging your lenses. I like it.
