kinda a bummer !

sadly lots of drugs in that crowd

Chris Cornell, the powerful, dynamic singer whose band Soundgarden was one of the architects of grunge music, has died at 52.

Mr. Cornell died Wednesday night in Detroit, said his representative, Brian Bumbery, in a statement that called the death “sudden and unexpected” and that said the singer’s family would be “working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause.”

Dontae Freeman, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department, said in an interview that at about midnight officers responded at the MGM Grand casino to an apparent suicide of a white man, born July 20, 1964, who was pronounced dead on the scene. He would not confirm the victim’s name; Mr. Cornell’s date of birth is July 20, 1964. Mr. Freeman said that the victim’s wife called a family friend to check on the victim; the family friend forced his way into the room and found the individual unresponsive on the bathroom floor.

So long. Thanks for all the music.

Also, thank you Chris Cornell for the best James Bond song:

All the great rockers are getting up there in age. Pretty soon we will be left with a bunch of worthless contemporary pop stars and Keith Richards.

I'm surprised he made it this far to be honest

I love the Rolling Stones, but that man has done way more drugs than these guys kicking off now and the man still smokes and he is still kicking. I just don't get it.

I don't either. Like Robin Williams said in his stand-up, after a nuclear Apocalypse it will only be Richards and a few roaches left... Some of his contemporaries didn't even make it to 30, [Moon, Bonham, Morrison, Joplin] yet here he is, still kickin'

He was was on the most gifted singers and song writers of a generation. I consider the first Audio Slave CD a rock masterpiece. His recent solo stuff is excellent and on my short list of stuff I listen to these days.

I was just getting ready to say, "Keith Richards outlived another one..."

Keith will really have to pull one out of his hat to go out with the cosmic style of Col. Bruce Hampton though.

Talk about dying while doing what you love......and no one even knew it was happening.

ATLANTA (AP) — When Col. Bruce Hampton slowly fell to his knees during the finale of his star-studded birthday concert, fans and musicians alike thought it was another one of his quirky performance acts.

Fourteen-year-old guitar phenom Brandon "Taz" Niederauer tore into a blistering solo as the 70-year-old man lay motionless just feet away, his arm draped over a speaker.

For several more minutes, dozens of musicians — including John Popper of Blues Traveler, Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers Band and John Bell of Widespread Panic — jammed away to one of Hampton's favorite songs "Turn On Your Love Light." The fans danced and the musicians smiled as they waited for him to get up.

But Col. Bruce never did.

Totally agree re: audio slave. I haven't listened to any of his recent solos.

I don't think I've ever been emotional about the passing of any musician up to this point in my life. The passing of Chris Cornell hit me right in the feels... I can trace my adult life through the works of Sound Garden, Temple of the Dog, and his solo work/ collaborations. Lots of memories associated with songs of his throughout the years. RIP...

I just saw a few articles that said Chris Cornell hung himself. Truly sad.

Seeing the same thing. I'll never understand why anyone wants to end it. I can honestly say I've never thought of killing myself in my 48 years on this planet.

Just watched a special about the 25th Anniversary of the Movie "Singles". The Movie was about the Seattle Grunge Rock scene and had Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam performing. Chris was one of those Interviewed for the special. The timing of his death seams so weird and coincidental.

Crazy that the guy hung himself... Another problem with some of the great artists. They somehow can't take it.

Mental illness is no joke. If it can bring people success as him (and not to mention plenty of others more successful) to ending it all then it has to be pretty brutal.

I have trouble feeling sympathy for these extremely talented but dysfunctional, self-destructive people. I feel sorry for the people close to them. Sad day any way you look at it.

Always been a giant fan. Unreal. Always seemed like a very bright, well spoken well adjusted person. Doesn't make sense.
