70 grain Nosler RDF (.224)...

Anyone tried the new Nosler bullets? They claim to have pretty high BC, and I'm wondering how they would compare trajectory-wise to the 69gr SMK if driven to the same speed. Seems to be an ideal bullet to try driving fast out to 600 or so, but 500 is already as far as I've ever shot.

I might order some and see what a hot load of XBR would do with it, Markm style. :)

I wonder if RDF means the same thing as VLD?

If that is the case then the bullets prefer to be seated closer to the lands and are more suited for bolt action rifles.

Its hard to see a design being superior to the 69gr. CC, SMK's or Scenars.

RDF stands for Reduced Drag Factor. They are a hybrid-type design. I've not played with them in .224, only 6.5mm, but am very impressed. Compared to a Berger 140 gr. Hybrid Target, the RDF is 1.793" bullet base to ogive using a Hornady comparator. The Berger is only 1.745." If anything, these bullets require even less of a jump before engaging the rifling.
