In the last few months I've been reading up on the legend of the gold in Victorio Peak:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorio_Peak

This has sort of whetted my appetite to watch movies about finding treasure and whatnot.

I can think of a few:

1. Treasure of the Sierra Madre

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Treasure_of_the_Sierra_Madre_(film)

2. Impasse

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impasse_(film)

3. A Simple Plan

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Simple_Plan_(film)

4. Raiders of the Lost Ark (Of Course!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raiders_of_the_Lost_Ark

5. Romancing the Stone

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romancing_the_Stone

6. The Goonies

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goonies

7. Fool's Gold

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fool%27s_Gold_(2008_film)

8. Sahara

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahara_(2005_film)

9. Three Kings

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Kings_(1999_film)

10. No Country for Old Men

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Country_for_Old_Men_(film)

I've got Mackenna's Gold on my "to watch" list, but I'm looking for other titles that have to do with finding treasure, or loot, or drug money, or the like.

I liked National Treasure. A bit silly, I know, but I love history so it was right up my alley.

The 3 original Indiana Jones movies will always be in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

I loved the end of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, where they were on horseback, shook hands and rode off in opposite directions.

This shows almost to the end, but not quite.

Fools Gold for the selfish reason of I spent my honeymoon on the island where the opening scenes were shot (Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef). The rest of the film was shot in the Caribbean.

Shoot- aint NUTHIN can beat The Count of Monte Cristo...dude got betrayed, imprisioned in a hellish prison, got educated, got the scoop on the biggest cache of loot ever...escapes, finds loot, gets paid big time, gets revenge, and gets his woman and life back.
Awesome book & movie.

Which version?

My favorite film adaptation is the 1975 one starring Richard Chamberlain.

IMHO the book and film are the best vengeance story yet penned.

Speaking of treasure movies and Richard Chamberlain . . .

Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold and King Solomon's Mines should be added to the list.

And who could forget Chuck Norris's contribution to the genre . . .

The Woman in Gold

Not really what your looking for, but it has that same feel. About reclaiming stolen art lost during WWII.

The opening scene in "Fools Gold" is gut busting funny.

Captain Rob is just an awesome movie.

Kelly's heros is a classic.

Another Kelly's Heroes fan here. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is also right up there with many others already mentioned.
