Father kills sex offender in his daughters room

INDIANAPOLIS — A convicted sex offender died Sunday during a struggle with a father who found the naked man in or near his 17-year-old daughter's bedroom, police said.

Police responding to a call from the city's northwest side about 3:20 a.m. found 64-year-old Robert McNally on the hallway floor with his arm around the neck of 52-year-old David T. Meyers, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Mount said Meyers had a heart condition and may have had a heart attack. An autopsy was planned.

Police said Meyers was naked except for a mask and latex gloves and had entered the home through a window near the girl's bedroom with rope, condoms and a knife. He was familiar with the home's layout because it belonged to a relative, police said.

The girl awoke and screamed when she saw the man in her room, police said. The father responded and struggled with the intruder while the girl's mother phoned 911.

Police did not anticipate any charges against McNally.

"If a person breaks into your home, you are justified in using deadly force in defending your family," said Mount. "In this situation, I don't think he was trying to kill him, he was trying to hold him down."

Meyers had served 10 years in prison for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct and was wanted in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender. He was registered as a sex offender in Marion County.

Police said Meyers lived with his mother and had recently lost his job.

The death is under investigation and will be reviewed by a Marion County prosecutor.

"Nobody wins," McNally told The Indianapolis Star. "It's a lose-lose situation for everybody. He has family also."

He said his daughter went to church Sunday after the incident.

Community Activist killed by wild eyed father--Indianapolis


Police say an innocent community activist was murdered in a fit of rage by a man who discovered him in his home today.

Police say Robert McNally was found choking David T. Meyers in his home at 3:20am this Sunday. Apparently, Mr Meyers was a concerned community activist attempting to provide free sexual education training, demonstrations and free condoms to Mr. McNally's 17 year old prudish daughter.

According to the local chapter of the ACLU and Violence Policy Center, Mr. McNally, an NRA member and proud "gun nut," was angered by recent attempts by the local legislature to require sexual education for 2 year olds and voiced his disdain by killing an innocent man.

Rebecca Peters was on hand and she had this to say. "It's inconceivable that an innocent educator looking out for our childrens' interests would be assaulted in such a manner. It's apparent we need more laws to prevent access to deadly hand-to-hand combat techniques by criminals and terrorists."

Mr. Meyers' family were saddened to hear of his murder saying that he was well on the road to recovery. His mother stated that "he had his life back on track and was even being groomed for a position with a local NAMBLA chapter.
Mr. Meyers' family also immediately filed 50 million dollar wrongful death and civil rights violation lawsuits against Mr. McNally and the local legislature for not passing enough anti-everything laws.

They guy had a knife, no details given, but still a weapon. Yet the Father still jumped in and protected bare handed. Much cooler then one sided gun play. anyone can do that. But it takes guts to go bare handed into danger.

It's a good father's instinct to protect his family from evil. When I was a child, a drunk driver hit the car my mom was driving, and our neighbor's car. My dad's garage was about 1/2 mile down the road, someone drove down and told him, and he was there before the police. The drunk driver suddenly woke up and decided to run, and he didn't seem to care if he ran over anyone. My father ran to the car, reached through the open window and choked the guy out until the police officer ran to the car, yanked the guy out and arrested him to keep my dad from killing him. The next morning when we drove through town, the drunk was standing on the corner with my dad's hand print still wrapped around his neck.

Prosecutor: No Charges In Sex Offender Strangling
Brizzi Says Father Who Strangled Home Invader Justified

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday that no charges will be filed in the strangling of a man who broke into a home with the intention of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

David Meyers, 52, died after a struggle with the girl's father, Robert McNally, 64, early Sunday morning.

Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said McNally acted in defense of his daughter and that charges were not warranted because of the nature of the incident.

Meyers was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived following a report of a home invasion in the 3500 block of West 79th Street at about 3:20 a.m.

Officers said they found McNally, 64, on the floor with his arm around the neck of Meyers, struggling to hold him down. When officers told McNally he could let go, they found that Meyers was unresponsive.

The Marion County coroner ruled on Monday that Meyers had been strangled.

Indianapolis police Sgt. Matt Mount said Meyers had come into the home naked, except for a mask and latex gloves and was carrying a rope, knife, condoms and a gag.
