Last weeks practice and qualifying are over and the actual racing starts today with the Superbikes:

https://www.iomtt.com/TT-Info/Qualifying-and-Race-Schedule.aspx

The Velocity TV channel does a 1 hour recap of the same day events each night at 11pm CentraI time. I recorded yesterday's, watched it this morning and thought it had very high production values.

Check your local listings.

I have it recorded, hopefully watch some tonight. I always wore a solid yellow helmet when I raced in tribute to "Yer Maun."

And I own this artwork:

I would love to sit next to one of the jumps and see those bikes fly by in the air at 290kph

I posted the wrong time. On Spectrum here in Austin it is on at 10pm CDT, not 11. Check your local listings.

Definitely on my bucket list, but time is getting short. Gonna try for next year.

I know some people without fear of anything. Each and every one of them shudders while watching the helmet cam footage of this one. Bravest men on Earth.

Or craziest. Has anyone else noticed that the average age of a TT rider appears to be significantly older than the typically young MotoGP riders?

Which is surprising - because they die every year.

Which is surprising - because they die every year.

Maybe it is the younger less experienced riders that are doing the dying?

Did someone mention something about IOMTT competitors dying? (http://m.bbc.com/sport/motorsport/40182422)

Happens just about every year.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle of Man TT

Between 1907 and 2015 there have been 246 fatalities, of which 141 were competitors, during official practices or races for the Isle of Man TT Races.

In 2016, 5 riders died on the course during official practices or races, bringing the total number of fatalities to 251.

There were six fatalities among competitors in the 1970 Isle of Man TT, making it the deadliest year in the history of the event.

Two this year: Davey Lambert and Van Den Hoek.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/jun/07/english-rider-davey-lambert-dies-after-crash-isle-of-man-tt-motorcycling

Lambert was 48 - Since making his Mountain Course debut in 2014, at the Manx Grand Prix, the Newcastle Upon Tyne based rider has developed into an accomplished exponent of the world famous Manx roads.

A fourth place finish on his debut in the Newcomers A race, has been backed up in recent years by series of top ten finishes, which includes eighth in last years ultra close fought Senior race.

Having lapped during the four lap race, at close to in excess of 118 mph, Davey feels the time is right to move into TT competition.

Well aware of the sheer world class quality embarking upon TT 2017, one of the main aims for “Lambo” at TT 2017 will be to lap in excess of 120 mph, having come close to achieving this notable feat at the Manx.

Like many of his Manx GP contemporaries, he has Mountain Course experience plus proven pace, to wrap up series of top class results on his TT debut.

Here is some background on Van Den Hoek - he was an accomplished competitor on the IRRC circuit:

Following on from an accomplished Mountain Course debut at TT 2016, the Netherlands Jochem Van Den Hoek, is set to embark upon on an exciting new challenge at next years TT Races, with the hugely respected TC Racing team.

Mick Charnock’s outfit, which will again carry title backing from DP Coldplaning, have over the years provided the platform for many a future TT Races front runner.

This includes Cameron Donald and David Johnson, to showcase their talent and ability at the world’s most famous roads meeting, IRRC front runner Van Den Hoek is the latest international roads star, set to link up with the TT stalwarts.

Established amongst the Netherlands leading roads competitors, Jochem has impressed many this year, not only in the Isle of Man, but also across Europe in the IRRC series.

Finishing fifth overall in the Superbike championship following strong results at roads circuit including the returning Imatra in Finland, he showed throughout excellent form on the Performance Racing Achterhoek ZX10R Kawasaki.

Having finished the second quickest newcomer this year to the Mountain Course, he caught the attention of many with his performances, including of course TC Racing.

His mount for TT 2017, is the teams CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade, which he is set to pilot in the RST Superbike, Royal London 360 Quantum Superstock and Pokerstars Senior races.

In my opinion Jochem is more than capable next year, of lapping in excess of 125 mph on the famous Manx roads, plus don’t discount from contending for silver replica finishes.

Just watched yesterday's Lightweight race (DVR). Those bikes looked like fun (the larger bikes are too much for me). Lots of passing and lead changes, well worth watching.

Today is the last racing day: SES TT Zero RACE (1 Lap); Sure Sidecar RACE (3 Laps); PokerStars Senior RACE (4 Laps)

I get what you are saying, BUT, risk defined in percentage of participants - way higher for the Isle of Man.

I enjoyed watching the broadcasts and I'd like to visit the Isle of Man during the TT someday. Going that fast on that terrain is not a risk I would take. Going that fast on a road course with adequate run off, maybe.

The Isle of Man TT is not for the faint of heart. There are risks involved, but I seriously doubt racers will shy away in the future.

Yikes! That is bad place for an off.

Pro Tip: After a bad tank slapper be sure to pump your front brakes before you need to use them again.

Surprised no one posted this.

Hickman shattered the record this year...on a Superstock class bike no less.

Video of Hickman's 16:36 full lap. Insanity!

That's borderline superhuman skill, right there. Not to mention the titanium testicles it takes to rip that beast around that course.

When I was a Young Man, I went through the main drag of Pima Arizona at 140 mph.
Somewhere along that ride I discovered that my 130 lbs butt was way to light to control it at that speed.

130 is not too light. Most of the racers are small and light.

It was pushing me so far back on the seat I couldn't let the throttle roll back until I got my ass back on the seat.

I guess you weren't tucked behind the windscreen. I was only a few pounds more than you when I had my R6 and would hit 167 indicated all the time.
