I was digging through storage looking for a couple of A1 uppers when I found what I thought after a cursory glance was an early 6920 upper. While cleaning a few light patches of rust off the barrel I noticed that it was marked as a 1/9, not the 1/7 that I expected. I don't remember when I acquired the upper, but it was likely during the early 2000's.
I failed to locate information that Colt actually made a 6920-like upper in this configuration, with the closest factory uppers being HBARs, which this one isn't. It appears to be a factory build, but I'd like to hear knowledgeable opinions.

Not shown, but the upper receiver is marked "M4" in front of the pic rail and it has the extended feed ramps. The barrel also has what appears to be a "0" or "C" on the right side near the barrel nut.
Thanks, Mike

It could be off of one of the 'Match Target' rifles.

I have one of those as well, I think I got it from Hoplite in KY. It's definitely factory assembled, don't really have any other info.

ETA: widespread civilian demand for 1x7 twist didn't really come about until the military started using mk262 ammo in the gwot, probably after 2002.

Thanks to all for the information. Using the nomenclature provided by scottryan, googling 6922 returned better results than I was able to find. I didn't know there was a complete 6922 carbine.

That's pretty cool. Colt slips out a surprise every once in a while to keep us watching. With all the new great guns today, there is sumpin about a Pony.

iIrc, back when I bought my AR6920DC (M4 Conversion Kit), circa 1997, 1/9 was an option...
