How do you know it's fake? Colt has been slipping backwards for years.

the areas on the carrier where the finish is all wonky/surface is not smooth, mainly. is that normal for colt?

Generally, the BCG looks like legit Colt. I see the finish issues on the carrier. That is unusual for Colt. I've owned half a dozen Colt BCGs and never seen anything that looks similar to what you have on your carrier. But just to qualify, you aren't actually having any problems with the BCG in question?

That BCG looks suspicious.

Crappy finish is kind of the colt trademark...don't worry, there will be an army of guys in here to tell you it's all fine as long as it functions because colt is about being a "workhorse, not a show pony" or some nonsense.

And I can point to dozens or more of instances where shiny shit looks cool, and yet it won't work.

Here's a thought. Contact Colt directly and send them pics or ask them to replace it.

Yeah, Colt isn't known for having an impeccable finish.
If it doesn't effect function, I wouldn't worry about it.

It rides inside the upper receiver, so you shouldn't see the finish on the BCG in use. If it works, run with it. If it really bothers you, contact Colt for a replacement.

It could be worse.

Someone posted the picture on another site. The gun shop he worked at received a new Colt 6933, in January of this year, and that is what they saw when they opened the box. If I could buy it at a considerable discount, I would shoot the daylights out of it and not worry about the marks. If it is used for training, it will pick up a considerable number of gouge marks anyway.

Next rifle or carbine, regardless of manufacturer, I service that has marks like that will get photographed.

Well, that definitely ain't a 'Show Pony.'

Not at all. That's the kind of pony that ends up being used for glue and dog food :)

The rest of the original thread was equally uninspiring. Apparently it took the shop 4 months to get a response from Colt. To their credit, they said they would replace it. Unfortunately, 3 more months passed with no replacement. Last update the shop said they were going to pursue a refund instead.

Every company will inevitably have bad parts make it out the door. Every company will also have instances of bad service. But, you'd think that they would have taken care of one of their dealers.
