I use a Larue SPR 1.5 mount on my Vari-X III 1.5-5x scope on my 3gun rifle. It's pretty much the same scope with a different reticle and mine doesn't have M2 turrets (yet).

It looks like this now. With the shorter stock I like the SPR-E mount which allows the scope to go further forward.

Yes, the extended isn't needed. I know a few people who have extended with MR/Ts but they didn't really need it. I know that an Accupoint typically needs the extended. If I keep my current scope I plan to have Leupold custom shop add M2 turrets but I'm really thinking about going to a Meopta scope.

Shouldn't that be "No, the extended (mount) isn't needed".....or am I reading it wrong?

When I suggested this on the other site, a bunch of guys jumped in and said that the SPR-E (extended) was needed for the Leupold MR/T 1.5-5x20 M2. I'm a nose to charging handle shooter. The SPR-E would put the MR/T 1.5-5x too far foward.

I have had numerous different shooters use this gun and no one has ever had a problem with eye relief. Some were nose to charging handle shooters others were not.


Just my personal experience, your milage may vary.

Same here. I own the SPR and SPR-E and the E puts it too far forward to get proper eye relief. I too am a nose-to-handle shooter.

If you shoot moderate to long distances (for a carbine or SPR) it's the best thing I've found. You can use it for close distances if necessary but not as well as a Short Dot, Aimpoint, or EOTech.

In all honesty, I am really mixed up in deciding what optic to get! I have hunted with leaupold 3-9'd for 20 plus years and love those type scopes... but this is my first AR and I am not sure what to try!

I doubt I really would use it hardly ever past 100 yards... but it would be nice to hit coyotes out to 300 now and then.

I have thought about Aimpoint ML3, Acog TA33R8 or now maybe a Leupold 1.5-5.

Note sure what the heck to do.

The best option would be to try each before buying. If that's not possible, Larue will exchange it if it doesn't work for you. I found that, FOR ME, the SPR-E is the answer. I too shoot nose-to-charging-handle. Best regards, ELN.
