Series 70 Switch Caliber

I had Jim Milks (Innovative Custom Guns- former head of EGW Custom Shop) put together a 9mm/.38 Super after I located "parts".
Found a nice, 70 series 9mm Colt and an old, pre 70 Super slide.
Jim welded frame and lapped both slides, installed ramped, Kart barrels, blah/blah.

Here's the Super upper and a 50 yd./5 rd. target from bench.
Load is 147 Zero JHP, HS-7 (discontinued but I have a couple 8's), CCI SPP, SuperComp brass and 1.250" COAL. Velocity is 1140 FPS.

Here's the 9mm slide/upper.
Group also at 50/benched.
Load is 124 PD JHP, Titegroup, CCI SPP and 1.150" COAL. Velocity is 1030 fps.
I lengthen the leade in my 9mm barrels to shoot the longer COAL rounds.
The accuracy seems optimal and feeding from 10 rd. magazines has been flawless in 10's of thousand rds.

Both the Super and 9mm groups were <2" (barely).

While 100+ FPS between calibers doesn't sound like much- the difference in felt recoil/terminal performance is huge.
The 9mm with the 124 JHP @ 1030 FPS is a powder puff range load, The 147 gr. Super at 1140 FPS is a low end .357 mag that is a quantum leap more difficult to shoot rapidly/accurately than the wimp load 9mm.
Subjectively that difference is similar to a hot 230 gr. Ball (.45 ACP) versus a mouse gun.

I carry the Super occasionally with a handload of 147 gr. Gold Dot at 1150 FPS in virgin SuperComp brass.
Nothing wrong with an 11 round .357.

I've been a .45 ACP fan for ever.
The difference in drop between the Super and .45 is substantial at 50 yds- and the gap widens at 100 yds.
I do shoot regularly at 50 yds and occasionally at 100.
If you can hit at 50, 15 yds seems like cheating.
Granted the probability of needing to use a handgun at distance is slim to non-existent, but I see nothing wrong with insurance.

I believe shooting a good handgun @ 50-100 yds is worth doing. I used to shoot IHMSA as well as handgun hunt. I think it's important to know you can make the shot (or not) if "push comes to shove".

I have a 9x19 upper and a 9x23 upper.

What recoil spring are you using for the Super?

Running 15# RS and 21# MS with a Flat Bottom Firing Pin Stop in the Super.
I shoot hot loads; 124 gr. JHP at 1400 fps, 147 JHP at 1200 fps.
This combo still launches brass quite a ways, but is dead nuts reliable.
