I am currently looking into acquiring a factory built semi - auto AR SBR.
What are your thoughts / experiences with the LE 6933 (https://policeguns.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5702&osCsid=dnsak309cd37kqkh9p459ur5q7) / M4 Commando (http://www.colt.com/law/m4commando.asp) from Colt?

Funny you should mention this, 'cause I'm getting ready to do the same thing! :D

The utility and reliability of the shorter barrel may be debated - i haven't shot enough with it to say one way or the other - but I love my 6933. It handles well and is fairly compact. I put a Noveske Diplomat (7.5" barrel) on the lower and have had a great time with it. The Noveske with the KX3 flash suppressor makes it a fair amount closer in length to the factory 11.5" upper. Regardless, i enjoy the balance of the SBR and the cool factor is high.

Here's a couple of pictures of my (near future) 6933.

Plan on running a suppressor on it 90% of the time, so the HB should be an asset.

I own 2 factory Colt 6933's and my Father owns 1. All the 6933's I have ever seen had a pencil barrel and a 1/7 twist.

Are you sure that is a 6933 you posted a pic of? HB 1/9 twist. Where did you buy it from?

BTW, the best gun Colt made in my opinion. The ballistics might not be that great with FMJ ammo, but with HP or SP and you are GTG for atleast 200 meters. You should be able to use this gun for anything that you can defend in court and because of the size and weight, it will be grabbed up when all the others are left in the safe.

Another thing, Colt's factory barrel roll marks don't look like that and a 6933 does not come with a side mounted sling swivel.

It this a special gun from S.A.W.? Like maybe a 6721 upper cut down and put on a 6933 lower?

OK, now you guys got me wondering. Haven't purchased this yet, but giving it serious thought. If it's not a 100% Colt, it doesn't really bother me, but I would like to know if it isn't. Reason being, I'm planning to put a SOPMOD and rail on it, so it wouldn't be 100% Colt anyway. Mostly interested in the HB since it'll have a suppressor on it almost all the time. And the price, I think is pretty fair, $1600 to my door, transferred. Here's another picture showing the HB under the hand guards.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa66/No_6/6933HB3.jpg

It's been 15+ years since I owned a Colt AR, and you're right, now that I think about it (and remember) the roll marks aren't right. I've contacted the current owner to see if he can give me more information about the pedigree. When I hear something, I'll post it here for dissection.

I agree, this has to be a build from S.A.W. or the like. The HB is fine, but what does having a suppressor have to do with it? Given the shortness of the barrel, i doubt the weight of the suppressor is going to cause too much 'flex' in the lightweight barrel. It's unlikely to be an issue at the expected ranges in which an SBR is commonly called into action.

But, to the original point - it's a great set up and you should be happy (the price seems a little different than what i was expecting, but you have to measure it against the severity of the smile on your face).

Now I'm wondering if the 6920 will give me more bang for my buck over the little 33.
Is the gas tube length the same on both the 20 and 33?

I do plan on running a suppressor from time to time.

Regarding barrel flex and suppressors, most folks I've talked to (and whom I think know what they are saying, i.e. suppressor makers) tell me that if you have the option for a heavy barrel, you'll be ahead in the long run. Yes, it'll work on a slimmer barrel, but in this case bigger is better. Now, I will never claim to know enough about any subject, so if you have a case against a HB, I'll be more than happy to listen.
So far as price goes, where do you think it should land? The price I was given was delivered to my Class III, tax stamp paid, ready for me to take possession.

I have had NO problems at all with a 14.5 inch M4 profiled barrel and my silencer. I know it's just a sample of one... But my POI shift is maybe 1 MOA up with the silencer mounted.

OK, heard back from the seller who says:

"As far as I know, 6933 HB rifles are not a factory rifle but a Specialized Armament special run. They get the rifles from Colt and upgrade them at their factory.
Like their 6921CQB 10.3 inch MK18, The 6921SP 10” barrel. They most common of the special runs from them are the LE6920HB.
Anyways, hope that helps. I added the side sling mount, and the M4 hand guards. If you want either of those changed back to the original configuration, I can do that."

So that should solve all the mystery. What do you guys know about Specialized Armament?

S.A.W. is essentially like dealing with Colt directly. Ken Elmore teaches the Colt Armoror course to police department personell. S.A.W. is the south western Colt L.E. distributor.

S.A.W. is the mecca of Colt Kool Aid. I'm a Colt fan, but Ken and Tina Elmore take "Colt or nothing" to a new level.

Ken Elmore and S.A.W. are not part of the Colt Armorer program. He continues to sell Colt parts.

I have a SAW 10" HB Colt upper on a 6933 with a KX3.
I think the extra 2" will make a better weapon with a suppressor.
I recognize the pics from GB, I've bought an upper from (Jim) and he is honest and A+ in my book.

I have a 6933 (thin barrel) and run a M42k07 on it all the time. I have run this rifle through a 3 day Pat Rogers class and it has close to 3500 rounds through it, most of which have been suppressed. I have not have any problems. I don't see where a heavier barrel would benefit me at all; maybe if I ran the upper on a F/A. You will put enough weight on the rifle with add on's, skip the heavy barrel and go skinny.

Supposedly the weight difference between the two barrels is something like 4 oz.

The ounces add up, especially when you start doing things like putting a can on.

The 6933 is a fantastic rifle. I really like the fact that it is a Colt factory SBR. It is very handy and light weight.

Mine is without a doubt my favorite AR.

Really? Is that a change from before? I know he has travelled to Departments in the past to teach Armorer's class.

Here are some links from S.A.W.'s site with some info: Training Announcement (http://www.specializedarmament.com/content/skins/flat/popup_issue_101.html) and Intellectual Property. (http://www.specializedarmament.com/content/skins/flat/popup_issue_102.html)

As far as S.A.W. goes, they seem to be a great place for Colt parts and pieces (I've ordered parts from them), as well as custom configurations.

Not only do the ounces add up, but the ounces are more forward and end up being farther away from you, so it 'feels' like more than a scale would show.

Bottom line, you are onto something good here, and it seems like you'll have a great time with it. Enjoy!

I have no interest in a heavy barrel, I'm looking for low weight.

Does the 33 come with a pencil barrel?

Yes, the 6933 comes with a standard profile skinny barrel. Buy the 6933, you will love it. Clyde Armory may still have a few.

Thanks, I spoke with Andrew over the weekend and he has one for me if I want it.

The 33 sounds like a winner :D

Amongst the ARs that I've had the chance to fire, the SAW 6921 SP is my hands down favorite. Its stuff like that that has me thinking about giving up my deep blue ocean and moving to America.

6933 #1 (my current favorite AR of all of them, just wish I could come up with a better solution for the light)

6933 #2 (about to get an Aimpoint micro of it's own, which should keep it at about the same weight)

Rob, can you use something like the mount you have on your AK to mount the a light?

Also, what readily available factory ammo is best for the 33?

Thanks :)

You can see here (http://tacticalyellowvisor.net/8301/39371.html) I had the best luck with the heavier ammo, with the 75 grain Black Hills grouping the best for me.
