Apparently not.

In the aftermath of last year's election, the centrist old guard is out and progressives have won the battle for the soul of the Democratic Party, Elizabeth Warren declared Saturday.

"But, boy, we've inherited a hell of a challenge, haven't we?" she said at an annual gathering here of thousands of progressive activists.

In a speech that outlined Warren's vision for the party's future, the Massachusetts senator offered a series of policy prescriptions, calling on Democrats to push for Medicare for all, debt-free college or technical school, universal pre-kindergarten, a $15-an-hour minimum wage and portable benefits.

She dug in against President Donald Trump, saying Democrats would defend undocumented immigrants brought into the United States as children and that "we're never, ever going to build your stupid wall." And she celebrated the ascendant progressive wing's takeover of the party -- which has accelerated since November's election.

In a shot at Bill Clinton-era Democratic policies, Warren said Democrats are not "going back to the days of welfare reform and the crime bill."

I'm pretty sure if the DNC is stupid enough to nominate her as a general election candidate, you'll see the biggest landslide victory in a Presidential election since 1984. Oh, sure, she'd carry the Left Coast and NE, but flyover country will probably be locked up as solid red including States that were close wins for blue in the last election like Minnesota and Nevada. Possibly even flipping Maine and turning Colorado back purple.

But she hasn't yet figured out the Bernie message just isn't carrying with general election voters. "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."

They are full on Socialist now. This is the new direction the country is headed unless it can be stopped. The political violence is only going to ramp up because socialists have zero respect for differing opinions or political viewpoints.

Isn't what the Dimocrats are doing known as doubling-down on stupid?

"Hey, if we were just more liberal...."

As stupid as they would appear yesterday again proves they have a large number of committed people willing to take to the streets in the name of "Anti-Fa" and those people are willing to give and take some violence to prove their point.
I do not condone or admire that, I'm just saying that now is not the time to write these people off as losers in 2018 or 2020.

Exactly. I see that argument floated a lot in the leftist echo chambers.

I think they just can't fathom that a significant portion of the country just flat out disagrees with their leftist ideas. Instead, they think that the problem is the the "purity patrol" on their side who won't vote unless the candidate is a pure enough leftist. It's projection, most likely.

If you browse enough right-leaning places, you'll see the same behavior. It is honestly how we've gotten so polarized.

I'm just thrilled that their solution to a solid defeat is the need to move further left...

Bring on 2020. I can't wait to see it all unfold.

They should just really go for it,instead of these half measures. Instead of just offering more "free" stuff to everyone but guys like me, they should just come out for nationalizing all business. Once they have their greedy little hands on everything, then they will be free, free at last. I was talking to a Bernieite at work a few weeks ago....he started off with Walmart is a monopoly......but then after he told me he was a socialist, I asked him if he knew the definition of socialism.....guess what......he didn't know, he really didn't know. Then he told me, I swear I didn't bring it up, that even though he hadn't read the Bible, that Jesus was a socialist. I told him I had read the Bible more than once....and that Jesus most assuredly was not a socialists. The convo ended with him telling me he needed to get more and better statistics. I told him I don't argue statistics but principles. Socialists are whacky people.

sadly so true
the media is %100 socialist now and will only slam oposition and praise their side as the ones fighting against bad !

also the police and law of this land is still run by the left in power and lets them get away with this

I honestly don't know who the candidate is going to be until 2020. Keep in mind Hillary thought she was going to be the candidate in 2008.

The DNC put up Hillary freaking Clinton as their candidate, just let that sink in for a minute. And this was after eight years of a radical Marxist infiltrator at the helm.

They only go more extreme from here on out.

Scuttle butt is Barry O. is done with his eight month vacation and he's getting back into politics, "behind the scenes". Why else do you think him and Valerie Jarrett are cohabitating in a mansion two miles from the White House?

No, he is not going back in to public service but he and his minions will be conspiring to save the DNC and keep the nation heading down the path to ruin.

IMHO, the DNC will try to run an ultra popular progressive like Mark Zuckerberg or the like. Someone who is hero worshiped among the Bernie Sanders supporting Generation Y and who is wholeheartedly indoctrinated with the left.

As long as they keeping pushing the " it's going to be free and you deserve it" agenda, they will have a chance in any election.
I would love to believe that their base would reject socialism at some point, but I don't think it will play out that way.

About half this country is the problem. Always remember that. A +/- a percent or two and it goes one way or the other.

You do understand that the other half of the country is thinking the same thing.

Mayhaps what we need to do is work together so that we are less of a problem to each other.

Quid pro quid stuff, we help with fixing health care, you help with repealing NFA. (an example).

Crazy talk, I know.

Do you think 'they' would out of hand reject a platform that said 'If you can't work we've got your back, if your out of work, we are going to create jobs, and we got your back until the jobs come through, if you won't work, all we promise is we won't let you starve.'

I don't think most people support flat out lazy folks.

Sure do. The majority of their views I have a problem with and cannot accept those views no matter how hard we try to "reach across the aisle". Sure, like you said there are some things we could possibly trade off with but the bulk of their platforms are unacceptable to me. And yeah, they probably feel the same way. I can live with that. C'est la vie.

The left's idea of compromise usually goes something like this: You have a sandwich. Lefty comes up and says "Gimme your sammich". You say "Go to hell, no way." They say "Okay, give me half then." You give them half. What has just happened?

That is generally the left's idea of "compromise"......they get some of what they wanted and YOU get left holding the bag without having gotten a damned thing in return.

I was going to say: I remember plenty of people on this site saying that the reason why Republicans don't win is because they don't run candidates who are conservative enough.

So, yeah, both sides are all about doubling down on the extreme edges of their parties.

I agree, working people do not suffer the lazy...the problem is the growing numbers of voters that feel they are simply entitled. I know the word is over used, but that's it in a nutshell. The Gov't loves the entitled, and no one is better at dangling the carrot.

Well, see, the way it should go is "Gimme your sammich." You say "Sounds like your hungry." They "Damn straight, gimme your sammich." You "Well, I'm hungry myself. How about half and next time you give me half?" Them "Sounds good."

The downside is this doesn't work if you present as a 98 pound weakling they figure they can just take the sandwich from.

Exactly, and that shit needs to end.

Thing is we are pretty much evenly matched, maybe even a little behind.

According to Pew Pew Polls (I trust them because I can make the gun noise when I say their name) this is the breakdown:

47035

47036

http://www.people-press.org/2016/04/26/a-wider-ideological-gap-between-more-and-less-educated-adults/

If we keep going the way we are it isn't going to end, soon it will just be the Boomers against everyone else. And then it will be a completely ineffectual group on the extreme right who can finally crow they killed the Republican Party to save it from itself.

Is that what we want?
