View Full Version : Weapon ID?
What weapon is this Saudi soldier carrying? At first I thought it was an AK-74 but the mag looks too curvy for that:

I was embedded with the SA Army southern area command, 2013-2015, they carried AK-47s, old G3s with green plastic stocks, MP-9s, and Glock 17s with left side thumb safeties. My guess is these are new 47s. With the war with Yemen and the substantial border wall with Iraq, the new F-15SAs and AH-64Es, the Saudis are short on cash, and I don't think they would spend money on changing calibers right now. But I could be wrong, I'm not a 47 family ID expert.

Probably an AK-103 or - more likely - the Bulgarian equivalent, such as an AR-M7F.

Crappy pic, but it looks like a fixed stock version.

I can make out the button to fold the stock - lighter gray pill-shape near the junction between the stock and the back of the receiver.
I think I can also make out dimples on the sides of the receiver, instead of lightening cuts, making it a stamped gun.

I didn't see the release button in the buttplate. But again, crappy pic. And yeah, looks stamped to me.

Probably an AK-103
That is what I thought when I first saw the pic. I would swear that is an AK 100 series polymer folding stock, note the lock / release button on the buttplate.
So yeah, either Russian or Bulgarian and IIRC they are the only two who produce that stock.
Definitely appears to be a 7.62x39 magazine as well.

Galil?
I noticed that the rifle has the cleaning rod installed. I thought that modern production guns generally came without that particular accessory?

Negative. Saudi soldiers with Israeli weapons . . .

That is the AK-12 and AK-15. Not sure if those are service wide for the Russian Federation armed forces.
The AK-74M is still plentiful, if you do a Google image search for that you'll see they pretty much all have cleaning rods.
