Made in Finland, this 6.5 Creedmoor rifle is hard to buy these days, but finally, after almost 2 months of waiting, i have managed to score one!
Below is video review on it!

Rob,

great video yet again. I love that rifle, and especially that round. If it werent for the high price, and crazy price of mags, I'd snatch one up.

Solid rifle and great review, thanks Rob! I have a CtR in 6.5CM and thinking on this one, really like the features.

I believe Tikka makes a version that comes with a Mcree's chassis and accepts AICS mags.

Edit- it's the TSR-1

They now give you two mags in the box and a rebate for a third free one.

I love my Tac A1. They are awesome rifles. This review was one of the reasons that solidified my decision to buy one, tho I went with 308. Took it out to 1K with no problems.

Your review turned me from the RPR. Ordered last week. Platinum in Deka as well.

I debate on whether I should have ordered the Tac or if I went the right route with my CTR. Either way, I can't even use the CTR magazines anymore which is I put them up for sale on here.

Best group ever for me.

Love the PA Platinum scope.

Nice setup man! Those Platinum scopes are amazing value for money paid!
Btw, i would try to move bipod as far to the front end as i can and try to shoot more to see if this helped. Also, when shooting for groups, i don't go over 20x - that works best for me. Let me know how you are doing, i think you can shrink those groups even more.

would there be any reason to get a CTR and build it with chassis, 2-stage trigger, and extra mag rather than just getting this?..

That's what I did. I wish I had just gotten the TAC model. It's really personal preference in chassis...

ok, thanks for the reply. I'd like to get started in PRS-type shooting but still really early in my search, just learning.

would a gun still be eligible for production class if it has a chassis or aftermarket stock?..

ha! I'm still on the fence...

I look at it like this, the price difference between the CTR and the TAC A1 is about $700.

you get 3 magazines with the TAC A1 vs only 1 with CTR. you can find Tikka mags for $75 + shipping so that cuts it down to $550.

the TAC includes a TRG-22 muzzle brake ($125) so that drops the difference to $425.

for $425 you get a nice chassis with folding buttstock (adjustable LOP/ cheek riser), flush cups and HK snap hook loops on the buttstock and at the castlenut, and a plate with both for forward mounting on the M-Lok rail (vs just 2 sling swivel studs on the CTR)...

on top of that, the TAC has a 2-stage trigger vs single-stage for the CTR. am I missing anything?..

so now I have to decide how important any of that extra stuff is and what it's worth to me.

$425 for a folding chassis and 2-stage trigger upgrade seems ridiculously cheap but in the long run, do I need to spend the extra $700 right away? that's where I'm at...

feel the pain only one time, I think for what you get, that price is really a super bargain, plus it looks tactical cool not afraid to admit it, and what more than Rob recommending this gun as one of the best he has owned or reviewed, go ahead jump in the water is warm. If you want to save more, nest time Cabela's has 100 dollar gift cards for 80 buy all you can

thanks. yeah, so far it's been - put it in cart, then wait and do some more internet diving looking for an alternative, find none, then go back and find quote expired, renew quote, lather/rinse/repeat...

someone once asked me if I was being indecisive. I replied "could be, I'm not really sure"...

thanks man. I'm like a kid on Christmas...

I'm looking to get involved in long range precision shooting. I used to shoot CMP but my eyes don't do the open sights any more. I looked at other rifles both more and less expensive and this one seems to cover all the bases for me, at least long enough to get started and I know what I prefer...

is there any difference in the barrel between the A1 and the CTR? The Tikka is on my short list for getting back into PRS/f-class shooting and while I definitely want a chassis setup, I'm not sold on the one sold with the A1.

same barrel and action. CTR has single stage trigger, TikTac has 2 stage, 3 mags, muzzle break, and of course folding chassis...

Ladder test completed today, weather even cooperated- wind at 15 MPH S/W.

Been running RL16 with 6.5 CM due to temp insensitivity and velocity.

Couple 3 shot groups (ladder test) @ 41.5 gr., 100 yds. Grid/squares are 3/4", each quadrant 3/8".
Darn thing shoots.
One thing I've noticed with all (5) of the 6.5 CM's I've developed loads for is nearly anything I've loaded will shoot well, in either bolt or gas gun.

What are other contenders and what are some good sources for best price on creedmoor

The Howa HCR is a sleeper. Consistently good shooters in the few I have shot and witnessed. <$1K.

Heard good things of Ruger PR regarding accuracy. Personally wouldn't own one due to corporate politics.
Sure there are others.

I was really looking into these for a while. What i found in research for $1400-$1800:
Taca1
Howa HCR
Bergara BMP $1400
Bergara LRP - $1700 with premier parts and xlr element chassis

The bergara ltp elite has an ORIAS chassis and is around/over $2000
On the other end, they have an HMR for $1000.

Anything lighter with a folding stock? Sub 8lbs and Sub 2k?

gaijin
05-15-18, 11:43
Not that I'm aware of.
Precision guns are pretty much boat anchors. While Bergara and Tikka both produce lighter weight "hunters" (which are capable of extreme accuracy) A folder isn't offered in the lighter configuration.

Even starting with an 8# gun, you're gonna end up with an 11 to 12# gun fully kitted (optics/rail/rings/muzzle device/whatever).

Lrp is 9.3-9.6lb and a folder can be added if not included.
I doubt youll find a chassis for < 8lb

I think a couple companies are making carbon fiber chassis systems that are light weight. However I think the chassis alone are over 1000 bucks easy.

Sweet shooting and nice rig. I only had one Tikka, a 22-250 and it was a laser. I got believe those guns are lasers too.

I'll be interested to know what you think of the optic. I have a K16i for one of my carbines. Just looking through it, I'm definitely a fan. Once my URG-I gets here, that will go on it.

I wasn't a huge fan of that trigger after handling it yesterday. I wished it was just the trg trigger. I'm not a fan of that thin blade trigger. The chassis is not the prettiest, but it seemed like it had everything you need. Like any other Tikka though, I'm sure once you get the trigger down, it will be shooting nice small groups. The action runs great like the others. I didn't notice the safe unlock feature. That is pretty handy.
