An explosion occurred on a range on which some SF 18Es and echo students were working with improvised explosives. Four died fairly soon thereafter or were DOA; one was a triple amputee and flown to UNC Chapel Hill, where he passed. Several others were injured.

RIP.

I heard an earlier report but that mentioned the triple amputee but I don't think he had passed yet. Tragic.

Man, that sucks. Keeping their families in my thoughts.

That is horrible. Why would you use a full charge- or was this not a full charge of explosives but still enough to cause enough damage?

Do you have an official link? Are you sure they weren't 18C and not 18E?

Well if it was training on IEDs then they were most likely building them and then performing either RSP procedures or BIP procedures. For all we know they were doing an HME course.

Another sad reminder that the military is a hazardous occupation, even without combat.

RIP guys.

It was an HME exercise from the report I read. Even with a reduced charge, my assumption is that everyone was pretty close because it was a learning environment.

Official report now saying only one died, that earlier report was inaccurate

Where did you get this info? I live here near FT Bragg and what we are hearing is one soldier dead and he was a student training to become an 18C, 7 others wounded.

News is saying 1 dead and 7 injured. Rumors initially were saying that it was 4 though.
