One step closer to piecing together a semi-auto Colt Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). While surfing GunBroker I found an LE6940 lower receiver set for sale. I had to have it to put on my IAR6940 upper receiver. I have a VLTOR Emod stock ordered to make the stock correct. I still need to buy a Colt charging handle and Colt bolt carrier group to make it a complete functioning weapon.

You'll need a TA11 ACOG SDO to go with it, too.

Where did you get the upper?

Two places have the uppers advertised. Aimsurplus and US Armamant Corporation. I tried to buy from Aim Surplus first but kind of got the run around. I then learned about US Armament Corporation. They are actually the company that manufacturers the uppers for Colt. They have them listed at https://www.usarmcorp.com/parts/part-list. I had a flawless transaction with great communication through USARMCORP.

Why do you state the TA11 SDO?

I'm curious as I have never seen any optics referenced in the prototype phase of the IAR trials. Mexico is the only country to actively use the IAR and the photos that I have seen show iron sights.

Thanks for the input.

Didn't know they were for sale. Cool project! I would like to see more pics. Could we get some shots of the internals of that beast? I'm curious what that heat sink looks like and how it attaches to the barrel. Could we get you to disassemble it and snap some shots?

Looks like a cool project! How much does that upper weigh? I imagine it makes for a pretty nose heavy rifle.

I'm deployed right now. I have not handled the upper yet. My wife sent me several photos of the upper when it arrived at the house. I will take and post more detailed photos when I get home in December.

Did some research...I like your recommendation. That just may be the optic to get. Pricey but would be optimal.

I just ordered 1 today from with knights rear sight. I already have a Colt lower, morgen ambie mag release, colt ambie selector, H2 buffer. I need a bolt carrier group. I found a colt enhanced extractor spring as well. I am going to mount my aimpoint pro on it. I will post pics when done. Hopefully next week.

I just got a full auto Colt BCG from AU. Also a vltor ambie charging handle. I also already had a grip pod from when I was in the Corps. I should have pics by mid-end of next week. I have everything in hand or on order.

I was thinking about doing the project and talked to some guy about it who has one. I'm pretty pumped up about it. I'm thinking about using my Colt Mexican marked lower on it just to really make it "Mexican Marine style". This pic is a Mexican Marine with one. Pretty cool.47734

The drum magazine is very fitting.
Any plans to get an SDO?

What is an SDO? I feel stupid even asking because I know it's stands for something I'm sure I know.

Man that looks great Alex. I can't wait to get ahold of mine. What did you use for your lower? SDO is a USMC acronym for Squad Daylight Optic.

Here is the optic that Masakari is referring to. https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=TA11SDO-CP

Gotcha. Thanks. After 05 I was on recruiting..lol. I know what that is. Just hadn't seen that. No I probably won't put that on. I am going to keep it set up like the pics. Thanks

I like the SDO but at $2400 it is hard to justify. I could add a couple of more Colt's to the collection at that rate.
