Lesser protection for 5.4 # per plate, more protection for 7.5 # per plate.

I went with the lighter weight. The L210 appears to most anything I would have to worry about.

How do you like the plates? The price seems good...

From what I understand it is not the same polymer. M3 has a stronger polymer, hence why they sell the gen 2 at a discount.

I am 99.9% sure that somewhere on this site it was confirmed that they eventually switched over to the new polymer with all mags. Can’t find on mobile.

It occurs to me that maybe we should have an Industry Wall of Fame for insiders like him that go the extra mile to help even the least and humblest among our ranks--the guys who make guys like me getting things done possible by picking us up and carrying us on their shoulders, or sometimes uplifting our perspective with a needed boot in the rear.

I would say yes, but there is a scumbag who spends most of his time on another board, and he pays people in money and product to post things for him. I would rather not have paid shills post his praise.

Eurooptic has some Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 scopes on closeout for $329.99. These are the older Gen 1 scopes. These are not a great deal, but a decent deal.

https://www.eurooptic.com/viper-pst-1-4x24-riflescope-with-tmcq-reticle-moa-capped-turrets-pst-43111.aspx

What I like about this particular Vortex LPVO model (#43111) is that it has capped turrets and a great reticle (in my humble opinion). The reticle has hash marks every 2 MOA down to 30 MOA, which is great if your style of shooting is to hold over versus dial in elevation. I also like the large partial circle divided up into quarters for fast and close shooting.

I've got a lot of time behind this optic. The glass is not very good (as far as image sharpness and brightness go). But this is a decent deal if you like capped turrets and the reticle.

I have used that particular scope. One thing you’ll notice is it’s heavy for its size. Reticle is OK, and I have a preference for capped turrets on LPVOs. Like the original poster said, a fair deal on a descent scope. A good friend is still rocking his PST with exposed turrets to this day, he liked it so much.

Speaking of Eurooptics, they have the Athlon Argos BTR 1-8 w/Mount for 379. You can find the optic for 379 lots of places but seems like a decent deal with the mount.

I had considered this optics for my first LPVO without breaking the bank. Hesitated because I don't know if the value is there compared to a Primary Arms or Vortex

Bone Frog still has SOST at $750/case of 500. Not anything I'd call a deal at a buck-fitty a round when Mk 262 is only a buck per over at Midway, but if it's a Gotta Have At Any Price... well, right now it's about the only thing on the Doc Roberts List I've seen in stock anywhere at any price lately. At this price I'll stick to my 500 rds of Mk 262 and hope I don't need to order another case... set one box of 50 aside for forensics and mag up 420 between the rifles and hope I can do function-check and sight-in with the remaining 30 as 15 on each.

100% agree in getting US made where I can, but the L210's are a downgrade from LAPG Level III's unless your specifically referring to weight. Maybe not a concern for you but from the testing reviews I've seen the L210's get penetrated by M193 from muzzle velocities over the 3,150 ft/s rating, which is easy to achieve with a barrel 18" or longer. It does not stop M855A1 (irrelevant as it's not rated for it) and M80 (also not rated for it) either. There are plenty of plate choices available that will stop M80 rounds and M193's from longer barrels even if they aren't rated for it. I don't think I'd ever bother with a plate that can't handle them. You do you brother, but if you are going to trust your life to a plate just make sure you know what you have.

*Completely disregard in entirety if your concern is 7.62x39 AP threats from 16" barrels*

Is there a specific carry location/color/price range in mind?

Yes. Drop leg, open carry, tan/brown spectrum, specific purpose is to mimic the issue M45A1 rig for Service Pistol matches and hands-on learning applications. This is not meant for an EDC--since my career goal is get back into academia as a History prof, this is for applications like "shoot the weapons of a Marine on Guadalcanal wearing his kit, then shoot the weapons and kit of his grandson in Afghanistan, then write a paper comparing and contrasting the equipment and doctrine from your own hands-on range experience." EDC I have an IWB that's worked well for me my entire life and plans to order a Dillinger Rig from Ted Blocker or an A.E. Nelson "Untouchables" if they still make it for shoulder carry.

Would I prefer the exact model the USMC issued if it were still readily available, yes, but at this stage if I have to settle for Functions Alike from a reputable OEM at slightly different color... well, the only reason I was able to get a CASV-EL for a "Mk 18-ish" build based on a reported EOD version was I was willing to settle for OD Green on the last one Vltor had.

Juke, that's the same info as I already had, but thanks. These are the right-hand versions, and... well, I'm functionally little better than a fiddler crab in use of both arms--and what use of my right arm I *have* is because back in college when I was shooting with some buddies who were sheriff's deputies, they made me do every drill once with my left hand then twice with my right. To this day twenty years later if you saw me without a shirt you'd notice that my left arm is visibly bigger and shoulder visibly higher than my right, along with reduced range of motion from being musclebound on that side.

Aerobase usually deals in real-deal parts for defense contractors and military units at real-deal government-contractor prices, WBPARTS, PartTarget, NSNCenter and ArmyProperty are all similar sites I've used for lookups before. I actually have the exact NSN and Safariland part number buried somewhere in a Notepad file... it's usually part of NSN 8415-01-535-6367 Marine Individual Assault Kit.
https://aerobasegroup.com/nsn/8415-01-535-6367
https://www.iso-group.com/NSN/8415-01-535-6367
I have the complete ingredient list copied into that file, but between OCR scan errors, autocorrect errors and finding manufacturer names and part numbers... I ended up going to the working assumption that Safariland 6004's for 5" 1911's would only have minor variance in the underbarrel area to accommodate clean, rail or rail w/light mounted frames as needed, and since I don't see myself cooking up a homebrew M45A1 anytime soon I figure my old duty sidearm that I'm teeing up to retire should be a reasonable "stunt double" for both old and new. (It's only being retired due to irreplaceable sentimental value, if there's a chance a sidearm might not be coming back to me postgame in a Hostile Defense Emergency I'd rather it not be one with memories attached.) I sent Safariland an email sometime in 2019 asking for more information and never got a response, not even a "thank you for your interest but we can't help you."

I think I paid $60 on eBay for my FDE safariland rotating hood holster. It might have been less than that, just as a reminder to anyone looking for a 1911 Marsoc clone set up. In my case, I simply want the rotating hood on everything, that way if it’s duty or woods, my rigs are all the same.

- My personal review (I've played around with 1 of the newest versions *H3T Gen2*/31 round) -

- Reliable enough after several hundred rounds -
- Doesn't feed quite as nice as a Pmag -
- Doesn't have any texture on the sides of the mag -
- Viewing window kind of useless -
- Very light -

If you add some texture to the sides (and optionally change out the followers if you like smoother feed), I think it would be functional enough for competition use. It holds up to my redneck abuse and uncanny ability to test mags by unintentionally dropping them while loaded and unloaded.

It was a "add to cart to see price" type thing. Price is apparently back to MSRP'ish today.

Maybe I got Midways pee pee slapped for posting the below MAP price and a link, dunno.

If memory serves, the MAP policy shouldn't have been breached since it only says THEY can't advertise it. You're a customer not an advertiser. Then again, Vltor's MAP may be more aggressively worded than industry norm.

Appears that someone is watching this thread who is quick to go after below MAP pricing. I saw that exact rail when I posted the charging handle deal.

All was fine and dandy for several days then it lasted 24 hours once the deal was posted, just like the charging handles.

Midway has done this for years. They will temporarily lower the price of something to basically their cost, and then when they have reduced inventory sufficiently, they raise it back to normal. Has nothing to do with this thread.

Agreed, pretty standard retail practice (been in retail 20+ years), have a glut of something, reduce the price. Once the glut is sold, back to normal price.

That does look like a really nice deal. My only concern is whether the bore is chrome lined or not. The description says that the chamber is chromed, but nothing about the bore. Also, the picture of the muzzle doesn't show chrome lining.

I own, or owned 6 or 7 of them at one point. I gave a few away to friends, and I probably have 4 left. I have a SF buddy who felt it was one of the best pieces of equipment he had. Thats coming from a guy who I have high regard for, and not just for him being a team leader with numerous deployments and engagements. I look at him as a brother, and we have fought and bled together. I use them simply because they work, though I happily admit that I'm not humping it for days or weeks at a time living with the natives anymore.

ETA- At this price, its crazy not to have one kicking around in your range bag or with your gear. I will also point out that I wish it was from someone other than SHARKARMs as their communication and way they place orders is obscure and obscene. That doesn't mean you won't get what you order though.

I emailed them about the Sig P226 mags, and have yet to hear anything back. I'm using this as as test, if they fumble the order, it gives me an idea of how they run things. I don't like the idea that the sell China knock offs, and I didn't like to see them selling 7.62x39 ammo at a buck a round.

One of my frustrations building the C8 was that M3X's were out of production and the Canadian ones were green not black; ended up getting around it because one of the guys over at CGN who's an armorer up there and mentored me suggested I just use his old setup from his tour Over There with private-purchase 552 and Inforce WML as a model instead of fighting with the unobtainium "By The Book" parts.

Part of me wants to snag one to go into the "C7 Parts Set-Aside" box, but my practical side is reluctant to drop more serious coin until C.'s had a chance to get on a plane out here and decide how serious she is about this whole "his & hers, matches as a couple" thing--which will probably have to wait until normalcy returns, assuming it ever does.

Sale is still going on, and RTB is legit as I have always been happy with their service. Just picked up a couple of these extractors- at this price why not have a few extra lying around.

If anybody here other than me usually stores your AR's broken down, one of our boardmates clued me in to these nifty little storage covers to keep the crud out of uppers and lowers. Same basic concept as a Top Stop or Bolt Saver, but a bit better executed.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/756565853/ar15-upper-lower-storage-cover-kit-for

Clever idea from a stand-up seller, at $22 per upper/lower set. Good comms, and I've already submitted one PIP that's been well received. (I like to long-term store my weapons with hammer down to preserve spring life, and suggested tweaking the lower cover's "hammer bubble" to allow for that.)

True... rub is what else you have in the order and the shipping costs. I'm not particularly a fan of GMW after a security breach somewhere in their payment chain got my credit card number stolen several years back... then the same thing happened at CAA a year or two after. Followup: Shark came through on the Grip-Pods!

Observations: They're a bit big for my hand and kinda heavy--they're solidly built and mechanically sound and I can see them working better than their FAB Defense competitor as a bipod. I can understand why my friend "Monster" preferred to stick with Broomsticks for CQB and the GP's for more "long-range work expected" situations; they're solid kit but definitely "Horses For Courses" and personal preference.

Would buy again in a "rewind", would buy again for future builds oriented toward mid- to longer-range envelopes; the M4 you guys helped me build in my friend's memory, and his M16 if I proceed with it, will probably stick to having his Broomsticks mounted in his memory, with the GP's as part of their accessory-kits for "hands-on learning" roles.

Glad you like them, I think they shine with an ACOG or LPVO, which is typically what I use them with. However, they work well enough on higher power magnification scopes, just not as well as a traditional bipod. I’ve also used them with a beltfed, and while it’s not impressive in a fixed position, if you are patrolling it works and still gives extra options.

Stickman, do you know these to be of good quality?

I know the people involved, not well, but I have no reason to think anything of their is subpar. They do list MIM extractors, but they also list billet extractors. MIM is cheaper, but we already know its not quite the same. Same thing with bolts, they offer both flavors of steel. The legit one is more money, but both are available.

If it helps any, I have an order that I'm still working on, but I'm ordering parts by the 5 and 10s for volume.

@Disciple - I've ordered some small parts from here in the past. My wife works in quality control for Mathew's Archery, and everything i've ordered passed her inspections :) Most notably the gas keys when I built a few bcg's from parts, the nitrided ones were a great value when I was shopping around. Processing and shipment are also very quick.

DocSherm is looking for $950 shipped for an Aero Precision build he did himself, and test fired it with 75 rounds. In this case, I found a .308 that I figured would be roughly $2k, especially as its built up by a known good guy.

More pics and info about possible trades listed in his EE thread. The price is good enough that I was going to buy it myself until I started counting how many 308s I currently have (and I couldn't accurately count them in my head).

Very cool!!!

I just got the latest-revision lower-cover prototype a few days ago that doesn't require a cocked hammer to install... it's not going to do anything to stop a falling hammer from impacting and damaging the lower so we're trying to figure out ideas on that; for the moment "Version 2 Alpha 1" requires either a hand-lowered hammer or safety on before cover install. He's the developer, I'm just the end user trying to help him make already good ideas better.

I've been trying to purge the M2's and some ill-advised early Hexmags myself to restandardize on 30, 40 and 60 M3's alongside GI/Okay/D&H. Pretty much the thinking is to keep two "fighting load-carrier" and one "training" set rifle-specific (GI for her C8, MAG556-MCT for my M4), then stick to stacked-deep basic-black for Home D and Stash. (Then again, once we get past mag rack# 3099 I'm gonna have to rethink my present numbering system... first two digits are either capacity or assigned rifle, last two ID mag in that group.)

Purely aesthetics?

Well, that was kind of the problem in the past...Consumers kept asking for a straight body 20. I'll admit...there's something about the form factor that is indeed appealing, and I still have a few straight 20s in my "prairie dog management" kit. It was understood that a curved 20 would be easier and better, but straight won out.

However... you can't put an anti-tilt follower in a straight magazine that needs to feed tapered cartridges. In most in-spec rifles, the straight 20 still worked very well...but a straight mag will never be as reliable as one with constant curve geometry and an anti-tilt follower.

Thus, the GEN M3 20 with constant curve geometry and an anti-tilt follower, just like its big brothers.

I haven't but it's definitely something I'll have to keep an eye out for. Even though I prefer to keep the "ready preloads" in full combat loads of 7, bricks of 4 sounds like an efficient option for handling the "deep stash" once I build out that far.

Side note, have you ever hit up eBay for the cheap piles of USMC coyote brown 2+2 carriers? For a long time they were super cheap, and a nice way to hold 1-4 mags.

I like the cheap surplus MOLLE bandoliers. They have a carry strap built in so you can throw one over your shoulder and go without having to get into any kit.

Sadly my P226 is old enough that it doesn’t have a light, otherwise I would be grabbing one or two.Just for the hell of it I ordered one. I don't have a 226 but wanted to see if I could fit or modify to fit my VP9 with tlr-1. Figured even if I tried to modify it and destroyed it, I'd only be out 15 bucks.

To my surprise it fits in pretty well. Hood clears to flip over and the other locking retention holds pretty well too. I dont have it mounted on a belt yet but I couldnt get it out until releasing the lever.

Take it as a complement. Lots of people entertain themselves with shopping or sports. Shopping for deals on guns stuff checks both of those boxes, especially as it gets expensive.

Take the other locking retention piece out and only use the hood. If the weapon isn’t built for it, you stand a chance of it locking up. With just the hood in use, you don’t have to worry about it. I pull the secondary lock / latch out on all my holsters. I’m more than satisfied with its level of security with the rotating hood in place.

This is my first safariland holster of any kind. Have a few G-codes and don't lock into the slide like this seems to.

Can I just undo that top bolt that looks to hold the secondary mechanism in?

https://patriotfirearmsusa.com/product/ke-arms-kp-15-stripped-lower-blk

You don’t need the receiver extension, castle nut, end plate, or pistol grip.

Downsides: A2 stock length and not all triggers fit

Definitely a deal, in my mind.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSorry, I am not sure. I was able to fit my VP9 with TLR-1 in there and it locks up well. I actually just ordered a 2nd one today, hard to pass up at this price.

Per Stick's recommendation I may try removing the secondary retention system and just run the hood. Seeing as the one I gave fits pretty good I didn't want to mess with it too much just yet.

No worries. I went ahead and ordered one. I was just asking because when I first got my MK25 I didn’t realize all P226 variants were compatible with all holsters. I think it’s the rail but it wouldn’t fit in a serpa style holster I bought direct from Sig. I got a tlr-1 omnivore and it’s it’s not bad it’s not perfect. I’m not adding pistol/light specific safariland holsters to the collection.

Mine is a LBD serial number and uses small pins...Interesting. I email the company linked and they said these were using the older "large" trigger pins. Did 6520's have both options? I'm not completely up to speed on that era of Colt rifle, so maybe I'm missing something. I wonder if Colt could/would clarify via serial number which pins these have.

Yea maybe not the "most current" setup but very high quality uppers- every one shot 2 moa or better with Wolf Gold ammo and run perfectly, better than what they replaced and they were in much better shape than what I got rid of which was some thrashed "training" uppers that I have parted together over the years........ For no out of pocket, kind of a no brainer. I would have posted it here at the time but they were gone within like 30 minutes of the email I got! They had those and some standard 6920 uppers, same price as the others.

I bought a "heavy duty" DD barrel nut tool from Charlie's but it turned out to be the same exact tool that DD sells for half the price, I checked the size, thickness of the new tool (micrometer) compared to my broken one and it was exactly the same. Same metal and when I cross referenced the SKU on DD's page the standard tool came up as well. Not sure if they screwed up or it was an outright lie to get people to pay more. I have contacted them so we will see if they fess up or compound the lie.

More from my buddy on the Charlie's saga:

"Well they decided to double down on the lie and tell me they sent the heavy duty version of the tool. I told them I had copied both complete pages of the item in question and sent them to DD for review....
They did not like that to much..."

If I weren't in a shoestring financial position myself it'd be Buy Cheap Stack Deep time.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize that was a repost from last month, just got an email from them and immediately ran over here.

I was ready to jump on that but did some googling:

Too bad bc I would have been a buyer.

Sorry it didn't work out for this one but always appreciate the effort

Feel free to start a new thread in this section titled "questionable" or something like that where we can all post and read stories that don't seem quite right, or where things have been awesome and you thought would be fails. I've been thinking about doing a similar thread for awhile, I didn't want to start it myself as I didn't want to look like I was bashing anyone by being the thread starter.

As I said for the last Black Hills post it's still expensive, but I rarely even see it in stock.
