Out of stock. But I've built a gun or two on those lowers, and i like them alot.
In case you haven't heard, the Cold Steel knife company (which makes knives, clubs, canes, spears, blowguns, machetes, plastic trainers, and all sorts of interesting products) was bought by GSM Outdoors about a month or two ago. It looks like Cold Steel and their vendors are clearing out existing stock at pretty significant discounts.
Maybe they are making room for new products from Cold Steel or maybe something else--I don't know. But a lot of Cold Steel products are sold out everywhere, and a lot are available at 30%-40% discounts, and often at bigger discounts than that.
I have never been a huge fan of their products, but there are definitely some very good deals out there, and the current products might not be available again.

So you're the reason they're out of stock now lol. I was on the email list for 20" gov't uppers but OOS by the time I checked my email. I did snag a SOLGW 20" barrel on Monday from AR15discounts and it was delivered yesterday. Really surprised at how fast it got to me, even though we're in the same state. Yep... I have tried to talk a lot of people out of these. At least get a streamlight. The bad part is they fill the pockets of many Youtube channels and the newbs jump all over it

I wish more would do that. Youtube is filled with shills. There are some guys that seem more trustworthy than others, but hard to tell. At the least they should acknowledge any relationship/sponsorship.

I try to point out periodically that I pay full price for very little aside from ammunition (sadly), and that I work with lots of MFGs as well as marketing groups. I still base all my comments off of my own training and experiences, but I'm sure there are people who think that makes me a shill. Thankfully, I think I've helped enough people and done this for long enough that my track record speaks for itself. If people don't want to listen, or can't understand, thats on them.
For the desperate PSA has Tula .223 for $0.70/ea. Horrifyingly that's the best price I have seen on the trackers for a while.

Something similar that happened to me, I once had a client that needed me to do an RCA on an issue with their product line where one batch of miniatures was a size mismatch to the previous and they were going to comp me a full set of that release, and I insisted that they wait until AFTER I'd finished the analysis since my study samples needed to be full-price-out-of-pocket to avoid conflict of interest. (Their engineer didn't understand that you can't just take a drawing on your screen and hold a ruler up to the screen for measurements, because Windows by default scales everything to 85% actual size.)

There is a question among photographers whether paying for something to promote it is a realistic concept. At least I should say, there is a question among upper end photographers. When you figure my rates, anything I take pictures of is putting a cost on the product. Is it ok to pay for a part through time, training, and expenses by way of promoting the company and making them money? OR... should everything be bought at full retail from a shop without knowledge of the company?
There are pros and cons for both argument, but I sleep well knowing that if I have a product, I will always "pay" in one form or another. Hopefully that makes a little sense. I know that I bring a value to whatever I shoot pics or write about, which is why I try very hard to only work on projects that are rock solid. Its also why I try to write about additional things aside from just latest, newest product. For example, I just got done cutting foam and am ready to shoot pics for a thread regarding how to make your gear more comfortable. By keeping a mix of things, and answering questions to help people, I think it keeps most people understanding where I'm coming from.

In my case, the RCA was for both them and the customer community, and I needed to show the purchase receipt so the community would have that clarity. If something's going to be subjected to Destructive Testing, then I'll happily let the client comp it because it's known that only scrapmetal will be coming out the other end.
In your case, Stick, that comes to a question of role, contract photographer vs. independent reviewer. Partially paying for services on the former is one thing, but if I'm going to be keeping a sample on the latter I pay my own way. (That set of miniatures had been intended as a gratuity for my years of service helping bulldoze a path for them in the research department.)

I looked and saw XM193 for over $1.00-1.200 per round. That is nuts.
I have a stash, and this is tempting me to make a quick $700, but...then...we don’t know how long this silliness is going to keep up.

The only on-line shop with any 6.5 Grendel is asking $1.50/ea for what used to be $0.30/ea shipped (Wolf FMJ).

That's all I appear to be seeing as well. I thought I was GTG, but have diminished my stock, even shooting less than 5% of what I normally do. Sucks!
I got out the pellet rifle and am plinking in the back yard, plus dry firing.

LOL unfortunately pretty much the same. I did buy a Tippman m4-22 and TX22 pistol and have been using those for live fire. The one thing i can still find locally is 22 at prepanic prices for the most part. I buy out walmart every time i see any. I also had a bunch from just buying it over the years, so all of my pistol and rifle shooting is that for now. At least still getting the reps in

Winchester/Olin have had multiple cost increases on ammo over the last year. I’ve heard feb 1st they’ll post another.

Regardless of the consumer product, everything about getting product from production to the consumer has gone up in price....Mostly due to how people are shopping online for EVERYTHING now versus just some things before Covid.
Labor shortages abound are causing wages to go up hitting raw materials production.
Prices for containers has gone up across the world as the major online company goods are using more of them.
Prices for shipping containers has gone up as space on container ships is at a premium.
Paper shortages are causing the price of boxes to go up for shipping product.
Then of course regular gun owner annual/biannual/election panic causing additional buying over normal stressing the supply/demand even more.
I would imagine ammo manufacturers are only willing to add so much capacity with capital investment into infrastructure. When 9mm is $105/1000 it doesn't make sense anymore, but $599/1000 it does. That 6X spread is nice until it goes down with gluts piling up as buying levels off.

Not bad if you sell him one of yours.... otherwise, he is best served buying the first Aero Precision he can find locally. I wouldn’t play with anything cheaper.

That should work out well for him. AP keeps the quality pretty solid while still keeping the price down. It might be worth getting him a list along with prices. For example, if you can find a BCM complete lower for less than $400, get it. If you can find a stripped for under $200, get it. If you can find a AP complete for under $300, get it. If you can find a stripped for under $150, grab it. A list like that might make it easier for him to actually get what he needs. I can't in good faith tell people to buy an Anderson or other lower that I know has a much higher percentage of problems.

I know its Amazon, but they currently have 3M replacement Gel Pads for Peltor earmuffs for $20.56. I have always seen these sell for $40-$50 per pair. These are sold by Amazon and not a third party vendor.
I was suspicious, but ordered a couple of a pairs to replace some gel pads that are about 8-10 years old. The gel pads I received were in 3M packaging and had a 3M instruction sheet. They have 3M embossing in the plastic on the underside of the pads. They look and feel like the gel pads I'm replacing did when they were new.

So.... anyone got a line on a decent quality upper that's in the $400-500 range?
He's not looking for something crazy right now (partially cuz he's 'seen the light', and partly cuz there's nothing left... :laugh: ); just a basic FSP stripped upper like this:

I'm not sure how they ban an 80% firearm, which meets the definition of a piece of metal or plastic... It is my deepest hope that the Republicans go judge shopping for injunctions to block Biden at every move. I don't want them to do anything that the Democrats didn't do, just serve it back in spades.

Unless I'm mistaken, mil spec is NOT 9310 for the bolt; it's C158.
Now, 9310 is fine for a bolt from what I know, but that doesn't mean they should advertise it as mil spec.

Got the 3 in I ordered today, and 1 of them binds about an inch from fully seating in all 4 uppers I tried it in. Can't see anything visible that's causing it, so I assume something is out of spec.

Edit: I don't think it's the bore for the key, I think there may be a little bit of material that was pushed outward (on the side, of the top of the gas key) during the staking process that is dragging. It gets tight before the key reaches the gas tube.

With that being said, I did order a Noveske BCG from Midway with a ships on X date and then I noticed the “add to cart” option changed to “back order ok” AFTER I ordered mine with add to cart and then they changed my “add to cart” order to back ordered and then cancelled my order. Looks like ammo prices are finally coming down. Ammo must not be selling at the abusive prices it was a few months ago, and it is probably starting to backfill shelving units while they wait for larger orders to keep coming in.

It is a solid barrel, I have multiple. Just ensure that you run it with full pressure ammo and a standard carbine spring or Sprinco White.

That’s why I grabbed ‘em last year for a little more than this. That said, I’ve had a chance to wear (steel) multicurve, and part of me wishes I’d saved another…thousand or so to get some nice multicurve plates.

I admit to not fully understanding why Magpul makes them anymore. It’s the same polymer as the M3, just absent the mechanical enhancements.

I suspect it's a combination of factors such as:
a. They still make a profit on them, and as said above, molds are expensive. It probably makes sense to wear out the GenM2 molds before replacing them with new GenM3 molds.
2. they compete for the "just as good" dollars that would otherwise go to GI mags or other inferior polymer mags, while the differentiation allows them to keep GenM3 mags priced a bit higher. If $10 GenM2 weren't available, the people buying them wouldn't switch to GenM3, they'd switch to GI, Promag, etc.
and
d. if they have contracts for agencies/organizations written pre-GenM3, they can still fulfil those contracts (or renew them easily) without having to deal with new contracts in order to substitute for GenM3.

I have about equal parts gen 2 and 3 in my back up stash as this seemed to be a bit of an unknown back when they rolled them out so I didnt end up rotating in the stash of gen 2s.

This was a thing and is part of it IMO. Early on, the over insertion tab didn’t play well with some lowers. Ironically the M3s are the only non-GI mag to work with my Noveske lower. I think one of the selling points was that they were thinner in the magwell area.

I actually just double checked and its probably by about half an inch. Guessing this is not an issue with Taco or Kiwi pouches.

From what I understand it is not the same polymer. M3 has a stronger polymer, hence why they sell the gen 2 at a discount.
