Anybody tried the Speer Lawman M193 ammo?

I ordered 100 rounds of it. It's supposed to be Lake City manufactored for Speer. I wonder if it's just XM193 in a Speer box. It's priced about the same.

I got my 100 rounds of Lawman "5.56X45mm 55gr. FMJ"

I haven't shot any of it yet, obviously. But it is interesting ammo. It is definitely NOT reboxed XM193 as I thought it might be.

The headstamp on the ammo is much different than XM193. There's no nato cross. There's no dimples/dots between the letters/numbers either.

The brass is simpley marked LC 08. The L, C, 0, and 8 are spaced evenly appart on the case head like regular old USGI ammo.

And unlike XM193, the primer sealant is visible on each and every round. There are speckles of case neck tar on some of the cases near the mouth.

The brass is much cleaner in appearance than XM193, and the annealing discoloration is vivid. Just based on appearance, this ammo reminds me very much of Q3131A.

I hope to get some shooting in with this ammo this weekend.

I will. I'd might chrono some of it if I can get Friday off.

I got to fire some of this ammo this weekend. I didn't get great research done on it though.

I didn't need to chrono it. It's hot ammo and flattens the primers good. Since it's LC ammo, I didn't want to waste the effort of setting up the chrono.

I fired a single round through a laundry detergent bottle full of water. It's about 8 inches thick by my guess. The bullet passed thru and keyholed on the cardboard I had behind the jug. This was out of a 14.5" barrel at 10 yards.

It looked like the bullet was completely intact. I'd like to frag test the ammo some more.

I got to shoot some of this M193 on paper yesterday with odd results.

I fired some groups with the M4carbine.net official handload of 24.5 gr of TAC and Hornady Bulk 55gr FMJs for comparison.

For the hell of it I went ahead and shot at 100 yards which I generally don't do with Carbine Irons. I usually stick to 50 yards.

The handloads performed as normal... staying roughly in a 4 minute square at the hundred yard line. But when I shot the Speer, my group moved up 3 minutes and left 3 minutes  I don't understand the shift to the left.

The odd part was that 4 of the 5 shots were just over and inch apart with one round an inch above that group making the total group size just slightly over 2 inches. An amazing little group for me with carbine irons, but it's back to the drawing board to figger out what's going on with the POI shift.

Next time I'll probably bring some XM193 out for comparison too.

The brown box XM193 that I have purchased recently does not have the NATO markings.

Hmmm.... that's interesting.

What does it have?

The same as your Lawman. This is Fed brown box from two different sources. I wonder of the NATO marked ammo was hotter than? You know those Euros...

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for Current production Brown box X ammo. I'd like to compare it.

I spoke to Federal and the Speer/CCI folks today and asked about this ammo. They said it was XM193 that is packaged for LE sales. The ammo comes from over runs and is not defective or rejects. It lacks a final polish however. Most of this stuff is 2008 production LC ammo.

Just FYI.

Interesting. It looks a lot nicer than any of the XM193 I've shot. My original guess was that this was just repackaged XM193, but the ammo appeared different.

But as Medicine calf pointed out, his current XM193 has the same head stamps.

ETA: I forgot to add that I fired some of the old XM193 against this new looking M193 in the Speer box. POI and group sizes were the same.
