How hard was it to punch out the gas block taper pins to install a different barrel nut? What method did you use? I'm debating on whether I want to go with a Troy SOCC rail just so I don't have to worry about getting those pins out as I've heard horror stories of pins mushrooming and being damn near impossible to get out on other brands.

I use a 3/16" punch first and hit them hard and solid from the left. Once they move flush just go to a smaller punch and it will be much easier.

Use a nice big punch on a hard surface. Once you give them a few good slams they should be ready for follow up with a smaller punch.

Put a little Kroil on it and do as above. There are some taper pins that need a big hammer to remove. Or a serious swing. I find it easier to use a bigger hammer so as to maintain control.

I use a 1/4" tapered punch and a 5lb hammer to get 'em moving. Never had a stubborn Colt. BCM whips 'em in way too hard.

I tap 'em back in with a little 12oz hammer.

Make sure you're on a hard surface with no give. Get a big hammer and a big punch and hit it from the correct side.

Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. I did mine earlier in the week.
