Baby Driver seems to borrow heavily from the movie Drive with Ryan Gosling (a much better movie BTW), where a savant driver gets in over his head with various nasty people. It relies heavily on the sound track for its "cool factor" but offers nothing in terms of a new take on the genre, with usual stereotyped sociopathic types in the gang, predictable and unconvincing action scenes from the action scene 101 movie handbook, with some fun dialog in spots. It wants to be edgy, dark, cool, and all that, but misses the mark as it just tries too hard to accomplish it. A fun rental for a decent action movie, but nothing you'll be thinking of a few days after, unlike Drive, which I highly recommend (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?195864-Drive). This one, gets a B-/C+

I rented it last night. I agree - it's okay. I've rented way worse in the last few months. Also agree it doesn't break any new ground. I found the main character kind of annoying, actually.

As did I. Kinda seemed like a dick. Did you see Drive? If not, do so.

It kind of reminded me of John Wick in that there was an attempt to do something different, but they just couldn't commit to it all the way. The choreography and character development is interesting and well done. Spacey character is wasted in the name of plot-line/run-time. Drive is a better movie, but Drive is more akin to Donnie Darko than Drive is to Baby Driver.

HEre is a bite-size version of the movie:

Can't agree there. They are based on almost an identical premise. I suspect Drive had a major impression the director of this movie. Other then that, yes, different movies due to Drive being excellent film and this one...not so much.

There are few better getaway cars than a properly tuned WRX.

I've seen it a couple of times. The premise is similar in a lot of ways, but they are just totally different movies. You actually have to use your brain to watch "Drive" - "Baby Driver", not so much.

Outside the basic premise, yes, different movies per above. Baby Driver reminded me of just how good Drive was (much to my surprise BTW) and how two movies with essentially the same premise can be so different in the hands of different directors. I posit had the ending of Drive been stronger, it may have been viewed as a legit classic of the genre. As is, still a very good movie that made me change my mind about Gosling who i considered just a fluff actor mostly. Like Blood Diamond, a movie that really showed Dicaprio was far more than an annoying kid actor. Damn good movie BTW.
