View Full Version : Tunnel collapses at North Korean nuclear test site,
Apparently, they have had a major event at a nuke facility. Perhaps it collapsed due to something moving at hypersonic speeds struck it. Just sayin'...
200 feared dead after tunnel collapses at North Korean nuclear test site, Japanese TV claims
About 200 people are feared dead in North Korea after underground tunnels at a nuclear test site that was feared to be unstable reportedly collapsed, crushing 100 people in the initial cave-in and 100 others when the tunnels again gave way on top of rescuers.
The collapse at the Punggye-ri test site on Oct. 10 occurred while people were doing construction on the underground tunnel, Japan’s Asahi TV reported, citing a source in North Korea. The television station also said North Korea’s sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3 most likely caused the tunnel to crumble and created serious damage in the region.
No officials have confirmed the Japanese TV station’s claims, but experts have feared for more than a month that the test site was on the verge of crumbling since the nuclear blast.

What he said...... ;)
Perhaps in an effort to be conciliatory the US could offer to send several hundred inspectors--er, I mean confined space/trench rescue specialists.....
Any chance they lost some of their nuclear physicists and/or technicians? That would be a major score if so.

*Beavis & Butt-Head voice* "Huh-huh... that was cool."
Couldn't happen to nicer folks........
Wonder if Scott and Stonebridge had any involvement?
Well, if it did happen as described one can only hope the initial folks killed were the research staff and any foreign helpers they may have. Sadly I doubt ole ramma-lamma lil dong was there.

Damm I miss those guys.
Bad things happening to the North Koreans leadership, scientists, party members is good. The population doesn't need to pay the price for their dictator's behavior. The civilians are just pawns and victims caught in the middle.

ETA KAIN GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!
I wonder if they had an accident with a nuke in the facility rather than damage from a test as they claim...
If it was just construction and rescue workers that it's sad that 200 people lost their lives. Kinda like the discussion in Clerks about the second Death Star being destroyed...

Good point.
If they were party people eff em. If they were dudes threatened with 3 generations of punishment then that is sad.

If it's 200 or more people, I think we can safely assume a mixture of both. Putting on my shiny tinfoil hat, maybe a kinetic launched from atmospheric weapons platform we have knowing there would be a high % of high value targets there that day for what ever reason. A guy can hope...
I heard this and couldn't help think of sabotage. Some sort of south korean or Chinese james bond. (maybe chinas way of taking care of business?)
The idea of an 'accident' is really low on my list of possibilities. What ever happened its a good day on the Korean Peninsula, unless you're fat boy.
Shades of Stuxnet anyone?

Wasn't there a warning about one of their test sites being on the verge of collapse some three months ago?
I believe there was an issue with a potential collapse due to over mining the area and doing some rather volatile testing within the tunnels in a mountain. I believe this was put out in July/Sep time frame around about the time of the second successful launch.
I'm guessing it might have had some help, perhaps China has had enough finally?
That's a nice tunnel you got there, be a shame if something happened to it...

Fixed it for you.
They ran one too many tests in the same mountain. The was some news about seismic "aftershocks" going on after the last test they did.

I've been trying. But, unfortunately there isn't a clear way out. Believe me the Goth chick that is running around in your subconscious with that chainsaw has me regretting even coming in for a looksee.
And for everyone's listening pleasure.

And no that isn't totally a random song choice.
I guess it's too much to ask that dough boy was in there, too?

I'm all broken up about fat man's tunnel.

You need to stop!! That's a way to perfect hypothetical scenario to wonder about!

Back in '97 SECDEF Cohen spoke of seismic weapons. Talk about your plausible deniability.
At the very least, I'm hoping dough boy has developed extreme collapsophobia and he stays topside all the time now. That way, he takes delivery personally of whatever our finest sends his way.
