I got in on the Brownell's deal on Colt lower receivers and picked up this Colt LE6920 OEM-1 upper receiver:

I'd like to use the traditional non-rail handguard on it, but would like to know precisely which ones. I would like to use Bravo Company's but it says: "Featuring M4 type larger oval design" and I don't know what means, the double heat shield appeals to me.

That BCM handguard would be appropriate.

Yep, that's the correct style handguard to use for that M4-style upper. The M4 has the 'larger oval design' (it's just taller) because of the double heat shield. Older CAR-style hand guards were round with single heat shields.

How about getting a real pair of Colt M4 handguards instead.

BCM M4 handguards are identical in quality and function to the Colt. BCM - $18.95 Colt - $44.95

Sorry but no.

They aren't the same. The BCM ones don't use the same heat shield arrangement and are made from the same flexible shit plastic as every other aftermarket AR-15 ribbed hand guard.

I don't think we are talking about the same handguards. I am familiar with the "flexible shit plastic" handguards, and the handguards I got from BCM are not in that class at all.
