I’ve been reading what little there is to know about the Suppressed Upper Receiver Group testing going on by Crane for USSOCOM. For those of you unaware, the majority of online knowledge can be found at Soldier Systems, with some to be found at The Firearm Blog.

http://soldiersystems.net/?s=SURG+

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/?s=Suppressed+upper+receiver+group+SURG+

So I thought I would create a crowd-sourced list of all known SURGs, commercially available production units, prototypes, rumors, what have you. Also I’m interested in hearing any first-hand reviews of any items listed. This is not intended to be a debate about the UTILITY of such upper, nor would I like it to turn into a 5.56 vs 300 Blackout vs blah blah blah.

Ones I’ve heard about (in no particular order):

Gemtech Integra

Added YouTube video link by Gemtech with more detailed info on Integra. Some neat tricks in there. I’m really looking forward to trying one and HOPEFULLY seeing other folks post their info in this thread.

Added: Nemo Arms apparently decided to go it alone after working with Gemtech on the Integra. Nemo's submission was a piston/blowback hybrid and will be forthcoming apparently. Link to NA's press release added, and Nemo name removed from Gemtech Integra section.

Better look at LMT's offering:

IIRC they released some on the commercial market not too long ago.

That LMT CSW looks super cool, but I don’t think it meets the requirements for the SURG, which I believe was required to be 5.56 and longer (14.5”-16” barrel equivalent overall length). The CSW seems more a competitor to the Q Honey Badger. In that same niche at least.

Added link to Larue’s SUURG upper sale page, which has various links contained within.

Searched but couldn't find weight of Larue SUURG?

the original submission (round 1) was more of a NEMO Submission, with Gemtech helping on the suppressor side. The new version from NEMO can be considered a V.2 from that round one submission. I think Gemtech is using the same setup as the NEMO/Gemtech round one, for round two, but not 100%. The internals on the NEMO setup is very interesting. : )

Is the SURG purely a NSW project or will USASOC get some along side the URG-I?

Good question. Someone with more inside info than me will have to answer that.

Anyone have any new information on the SURG program as a whole or any of the products listed above?

It has been a goat rodeo. After the cancelation and rebid the testers jumbled parts between submissions and a majority(or all) of the entrants had to resubmit. Not sure where it is at now.

Congrats SIG on the Win, No doubt some the guys working there that are putting in the R&D time on these projects are doing their job.

How long till cloners start buying Brownells Colt lowers and Virtus uppers for a SURG clone?

Supposedly the upper will be in tan 499. I wonder if the receiver end plate will match the lower or the upper.

Come on, they already have the colt lowers. And they’ll get the surg before the guys using them in the mil get them. Just like the URG-I

It's been a few years. Here's some new stuff:

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2023/07/20/us-socom-extends-suppressed-upper-receiver-group-surg-contract-5-years/
https://laststandonzombieisland.com/2023/07/24/sig-to-make-more-surgs-for-socom/

A few places (Impact and Bauer) taking preorders for limited releases of civilian SURG kits for Dec 2023 delivery.

I just want one of those titanium suppressor cages!

Larue is making a final limited run of their suurg uppers. One can be yours for only $2999.99.

That's $1000 less than SIG's! ;)

I think that is a winners vs losers thing. Win a contract, and everyone wants your product. Lose a contract, and you just have a product that lost. For example, had the DD RIS II not been awarded the contract, there is no way they would have seen the same sort of hype. KAC did something similar when it won the first contract.

A real bargain, as it's a one stamper saving you an extra $200!!!

I think they're cool but that is crazy money for what they are, although the machine time for the burn guards must be crazy. I get they're trying to recoup R&D costs so I'll go be poor somewhere else.

SIG is selling SPEAR LT uppers now, for $1999, but apparently only in black, not FDE, if that matters.

If you already have a MCX Spear LT upper, you can just buy an 11" barrel for $799.

SLX suppressor for $1149(ish) plus $200 tax stamp

Stock adapter for $140(ish)

Stock for $200

That burn guard is apparently unobtanium, for now. Surprised no after-market companies like Strike Industries have made something similar. I'm sure it's a niche of a niche market.

Modtac has something very similar and in my opinion might be better in some ways, having never handled the SURG heat shield it's hard to say for sure.

Modtac seems more similar to Larue's SURG solution. SIG's is, I believe, just a cage that bolts on to the suppressor. No contact with the handguard.
