I'm assuming there is some Mil-Std for it, but I have no idea what it is or where to get some.

Thanks,
Jason

The liquid of the Gods!

This came up before... I forget where you could get it. It should be a cologne.

BCM also uses it if I remember correctly.

It must have grit in it that causes all the scuffs on the finish :p

I always heard it was slip2k, but slip does not smell like a new bcm upper. Curious as well.

Colt used to use G96 Gun Treatment as a preservative on their 1911's. It was my favorite smell when opening the box...

if G96 is the liquid of the Gods, then Frog Lube is the liquid of the Dentists. :D

This ^^^^^^ .. The aroma of bondo to fill the voids in the forging would be a welcome addition to the new Colt smell. A girl that doesn't wash her hair probably doesn't wash her ass! Colt QC is a joke.

I was literally smelling my upper receiver yesterday, and my wife was looking at me like I was crazy, as I was trying to explain the nostalgia I feel when I smell that smell. Takes me back to being a little kid spending the summers with my grandfather, and all we did was shoot, all day, everyday, for those 2-3 months of summer break from the time I was 5 or 6 till I was about 18!

Which company?

Which company?

Sold by and ships from Amazon, who is linked from G96 as an authorized dealer. None of this third party vendor crap like a lot of gun things on Amazon.

Do they provide an SDS or MSDS? Do they potentially contain any chlorinated/ fluorinated paraffins or bonded to any derides of hydrocarbons? Free hydrogen was another issue with lubes from the past, and some others.
Being "slick" is great until you add in the embrittlement variable, and some other issues.
I have been curious about this product and some others.

Thanks, I'll take a deeper look into some of this. I'm not a CE by degree, but I've been around long enough in this to question some items.

With the exception of the bolt, my colt 6920 wast the DRIEST rifle I have ever purchased new.

I’m feeling a bit slighted based on the others responses. ☹️

FYI, If you guys are considering buying "G96" from Amazon, just remember "Gift Wrapping" is available for $3.99. With Christmas coming up, show that special someone that you care. Even if you're just gifting it to yourself!

I just picked up some G96 from wally world (https://www.walmart.com/ip/G96-Products-Triple-Action-Gun-Treatment-12-oz/38335913?action=product_interest&action_type=title&beacon_version=1.0.2&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&client_guid=dc2c6a72-6e28-4d21-3585-1bd46072736b&config_id=106&customer_id_enc&findingMethod=p13n&guid=dc2c6a72-6e28-4d21-3585-1bd46072736b&item_id=38335913&parent_anchor_item_id=37983851&parent_item_id=37983851&placement_id=irs-106-t1&reporter=recommendations&source=new_site&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=ZKz6Hfdb44_WzVtPJFNhTY). I prefer to keep an aerosol in my range bag to spritz the bore of my carbines when leaving the range on a wet or cold day (condensation). Its smells so nice it can't be good for you.

The new Colt I just received smells nothing like G96. The oil used just had that old fashioned, kind of dirty oil smell.

Whatever they use on their lowers seems lacquered up. It also turns milkey white when you try to flush it out with slip degreaser.

I received a new 6920 for a my duty rifle since the personally owned weapon policy went away and whatever was used was sticky and the trigger pull sucked until it got cleaned with either Rem Cleaner or carb cleaner. The one good thing about the rifle is that it was zeroed at the factory and there was no time spent getting it on target.

This topic is about the brown preservative Colt puts on their guns. It does not have a sweet smell.

Perhaps not, but this thread has an elongated feel. Wasn't the question answered early on?

Ok well getting there then I suppose. Some changes were made after Colt Defense acquired Colt Manufacturing a few years ago so I do not know what Colt ships weapons with anymore but they did at one time use G96 as well as another variant I honestly can't remember. The "smell" I am very familiar with however and also enjoy it.

Edit: Sent an email to someone I talked with several times but not sure if he's still there. If I hear anything relevant back will advise.

I believe (not 100% certain) the stuff that does not smell pleasant is this.

http://www.royco.co.in/royco-315/

The last thirty 6920’s I received have been coated in it. It turns a little milky color when removing with 725.
