Can't you see, simple man, you're flirting with disaster!
Gimme three steps, Mister, and gimme back my bullets!
Oooo-ooo, that smell... sweet home Alabama!
New fun game for the Thanksgiving table... Have a conversation using only title or key lines from classic Southern Rock.
Been to more than a few Molly Hatchet/Nantucket concerts.
Now I am gonna be pulling youtube vids all day long at work....
I saw Molly Hatchet open for Triumph years ago (1984 maybe?), one of the stranger double bills I witnessed but both bands nailed their shows.
Saw Skynyrd on the 10 year anniversary tour for the airplane crash, with Ronnie’s brother singing. The last song was Freebird and they had the audience sing the words while Ronnie’s hat was hung on the mic center stage. I still get chills remembering.
Did stage security once for Blackfoot sometime in the late 80s or early 90s. I was center and one of Medlocke’s monitors was on a bump out right next to me. Even with earplugs my ears rang for days. I told him afterwards it was a great show but damned if he wasn’t a deaf MF. He laughed and got me a beer. Cool guy.
I'd like to add this one to the play list.

Sorry, I dont feel that is representative of the southern rock genre, too country twangy.
Here are my favs, all are from the Allman Brothers, for the most part I'm not into angst, I listen to the ABB to chill. For that reason Eat A Peach is IMO best album evah:
Blue Sky - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYYwzmVz3Ng - (IMO ties with Layla for best song of the last four decades)
Mountain Jam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNuNz2idDtY - (best driving song)
Little Martha - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmSPCOby-1A - (two minutes of acoustic heaven)
Sweet Melissa - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5XJDxe7TVY
For my angst:
Whipping Post - already posted
I listen to everything from Hall & Oates, Metallica, to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack and I am so far behind on music. I listen to everything but most what I listen to is not current and my girlfriend hates that I discover a song and play it 6 months after its been played out on the radio and she hates the song at that point.
But I did recently discover The Highwayman- you wanna know how? Grand Theft Auto V, I stole a piece of shit car down in Sandy Shores near a trailer park and that was the song playing on outlaw country music station Rebel Radio. I mostly listen to Radio Mirror Park, FlyLo FM , Soulwax or Worldwide FM but at the time I was on foot and had just killed a police officer after a drug deal had gone south and acquired an automatic 3 star wanted level and had to get my ass out of there. Anyways, that song got me through a 4 minute police chase and multi-county joint task force shootout that lead to a 5 star wanted level followed by death. I got as far as I could in that shitty car while driving on 4 flats and this song inspired me to not give up, gave me a sense of hope. I was finally killed off HWY 1, in Grapeseed, just south of Mount Chiliad. But I'm Still Alive!!

Off topic, deleted but basically not trying to turn this into a blues thread.
???? You post Robert Johnson and ECs cover and don't want to go down the Blues Rd. I have never heard RJ associated with Southern Rock or EC either.
Kid Rock and Tom Petty would be miles closer to Southern Rock and at least Petty was from Gainesville FL. But again, neither of those are really what most associate. Petty was basically born into it and evolved out of it. Kid Rock incorporated it into his style later in life.
But an education in Southern Rock? You will end up with "bands that were influenced by rock, country, blues, folk, jazz, bluegrass" ... which is pretty much every American band with a guitar.

I'd say yes.
Even though CCR was from CA, they are labeled as "swamp rock" and "country rock" genres.
Old delta blues song that served as inspiration later for Clapton, Robert Johnson's Crossroads 1936.
My favorite Led Zepplin song is actually a cover of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie.

Well, let's expand on influence then.
That's easy... everything prior to 1960 or so.
There are inspirations in music and there are pivot points. Hendrix, EVH, Emerson, Wakeman. People that do things that are the same kinda thing that's going on but at the same time really different.
For instance Buchanan is the pivot point that influences say Campilongo.
A lot of southern rock is the sound too. Which would be engineer and studio.
Like Phil Spector and the Wrecking Crew. When you listen to southern rock you wouldn't likely mistake the sound for something like the sound of the Who. Like AC/DC wasn't rock or heavy metal. It was some pivotal blend that was both familiar and different.
To me a great deal of southern rock is attitude more so than where any given band was from. It was attitude, sound, style.

Drinking some Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale mixed 40/60 with Breckenridge Vanilla Porter mixed, aka "shipwrecked".
Smoking a Savinelli pipe with some old Captain Black.
The Dutch Shepherds and the Malinois seem to like the music.

Last weekend I went to the liquor store buying a variety of similar beverages in a 69 GTO with a Malinois in the back seat and this 8 track playing. Followed by CCR.
Are we related?

She is a fawn with black mask from a line of imported working line BM and DS that have been being bred in America for the past dozen years that feeds heavily into .mil and LE.
Each litter is a mix of brindles and fawn/BM.
Her puppy screening and assessments derailed her from mil/LE pipeline for being a little too distraction prone and prey oriented.
e.g.-we will be out doing jumps and running obstacles, and she will lose her mind darting off after a rabbit, squirrel, lizard, etc.
And yes, she is too spastic. She actually lives in the barn attached to the house, because in the house she will not just hang out. She is in constant motion and will not settle down and synch with everyone.

I know Blue Sky has been mentioned, but hard for me to imagine having to pick a singular and better song that nails down the US Southern sound to road map to other greatness...my understanding is Allman starts off the axe picking at the 1:10 mark until they go into unison at 2:30 & Dickey Betts carries out the balance of the shared lead 10 seconds later. Gotta listen but you have the two greats with a Fender Strat & Les Paul playing their very best albeit similar & different. They can play this one at my funeral!! LOL, maybe a geeky moment but it's one of those tunes that touches my soul. Funny how music can reach you at times.
Don't Fly Misty Blue Bird, I'm just walking down the road...
