That's a lonely stretch of road at night, so I started counting deer.
67 live and 17 dead and one totaled car that most likely hit a deer, but I couldn't see the deer anywhere as I passed.
I haven't seen that many in a while.

maybe it was the ghost of the same deer over and over again...

It's better than coffee to keep you awake on that drive.

I drove up I45 from Houston to Dallas on Sunday starting at 1230am... Got home at 5am after a 30 minute stop for a nap.

I swear I was the only one going north for a stretch of 45 minutes. I saw no other cars on north bound I45. It was honestly a bit eerie.

There is a 15 mile stretch of narrow 2 lane near me where the woods are 10-12 feet from the pavement. On the motorcycle one night around midnight I counted 30 before the counting became a distraction. I had slowed down to 30MPH before getting off that stretch. I know the feeling.

Sounds like a Twilight Zone episode.

The grass/brush on the side of the road was 4ft tall in a lot of places. When I got on 190, those same trees were still there, right up to the edge of the road.
looking for eyeballs and movement was the big tell.
I was walking the dog tonight and a deer walked through the High School parking lot, across the park, across the track and was in no big hurry to do any of it.
The things are like four legged locusts here.

Try doing it with moose... 15 in 5 miles last night. Nothing like hitting a 1000# deer.
