Haven't received today's newsletter yet, but according to an Insta post from the 5th, Vortex should have a new Aimpoint-ish RDS out today.
Has anyone seen anything? I don't know how to post the photo (waiting for the firing squad... any minute now...) so here's the disembowled link.

P.S. I debated asking this in either the Korgs130 thread or the C4IGrant threads since they were already discussing Vortex optics.

7000 hour battery life? That's pretty weak compared to their competition.

But is it going to be priced like the competition?

What does this do better than the Primary Arms red dot with 50k hr battery life for $169.

Probably about the same as a PA micro dot.

I would hope be more durable. Honestly though, the MRO looks better and better

bam. Primary arms/Holosun copy. Been using it for over a year. Same battery, auto off, touch to turn on. Comes with two mounts

Less than $120

Nothing against PA, but I'd happily choose the Vortex offering out of all of the others. I just hope that it uses micro mounts.

Then on black Friday I got another one for 70 on their blemishes sale.

It is not my mro or t1 but for a second tier rifle they work great

291 days isn’t bad. I’ve had good luck with a PA 1-6 LPV, but have zero experience with their RDS. I’ve had a gen 1 Vortex Spark that keeps ticking even after some not so nice treatment. Not serious abuse though. At the MSRP of 219 this will probably sell under $200 once the new wears off. It looks like one more affordable RDS from a reputable company. Can’t complain about that too much.

I take battery estimates with a grain of salt. I have an MRO with its original battery that has been on constantly since April 2016 at setting 4. I can only surmise that it is a logrythmic scale on brightness settings and the battery on setting 4 will be dead around 2 years. I will see soon enough.

From Trij FAQ:

The MRO battery should last for 5 years of continual use at setting “3” (5 of 8). When left on at the brightest setting (“6”), the battery should last around 25 days. Note that extended use in extreme temperatures – either cold or hot – may reduce the battery life considerably.

Also, if you are worried about the battery dying, and you are putting this on a duty rifle, then change the battery on your birthday and half birthday. I would put it on a backup or fun rifle only, but that's just me.

To add to this - my Aimpoint micro batteries have died unexpectedly more than my EOTech batteries. I leave my Aimpoints on the second highest setting so that the dot doesn't get washed out by the light, and this is the third time I've picked the gun up in the past few years and the battery has been dead. I'm pretty sure the last time was less than 12 months ago.

The only thing worthy from Vortex is their Razor HD II line.

There is no reason to believe that this new RDS would be more durable than the PA optic.
