stripped my upper receiver threads

I stripped the the first thread on my dd upper trying to remove the old version dd mfr barrel nut, im waiting on my new dd mfr mlok rail to come in, my question is, would you guys trust this upper as a home defense rifle anymore? A standard g.i. barrel nut still threads on perfectly fine and locks my barrel in nice and tight, but should i trust it?

I have spikes upper that I broke torquing a muzzle device without a barrel nut on or any other support. I knocked busted piece off, probably took out 3 threads half as long as your scrape there. I use it on a not so serious rifle, but its 100% and just as accurate as I expected from a non-damaged upper. GTG most likely.

Just make sure to use some antiseize lube on it the next time you tighten the nut down, and not to exceed factory specified torque values.

I use moly grease from the the autoparts store, will that be good enough or donyou recommend something different since im missing a half of a thread?

If you can be certain the grease doesn't have graphite as part of the blend it will be ok, but a lot of greases at parts houses have graphite additive.

I went ahead and popped for Aeroshell 33ms to err on the side of caution.

Depends on how much you want to buy. Loads of people o. EBay and Amazon sell small cups of the stuff that are more than enough for a barrel job or 2. The cheapest place I found for a full tube was:
