This is a DLA contract, basically just a big purchase.
DLA acquisitions are for items already with an NSN, the "competitive" part is just comparative pricing. Even if Magpul had lost the bid, they still would have made the sale.

Hmmm... if we assume wholesale to be half retail like general nondurable consumer goods (price doubles every level, manufacturer->distributor->retail, if I'm recalling correctly from my Business-major days), based on around $15 retail, that would suggest around 1.7 million mags as a lowball.

Or, as some preppers would call that number, "a really good start." lol

Didn't the DoD spend $50k on a hammer? $12M should work out to be about 50,000 magazines lol

We’ve been buying them through the system for $13 each, I believe.

A store down the street has pallet sized bins of black m3s for $9.99 at least once a month. And $8.99 on special sales. Has had the old fde for the same.

If you ever bid a government job for a commercial price you would use your ass. Government construction projects run 3 to 5 times the cost of civilian ones. I wouldn't be surprised if he cost per mag was double retail.
