View Full Version : 14.5" middy??
Is there one made? If not, why not? It seems like it would be ideal...
PK sells a 14.5 Sabre

Sabre also advertises a 14.5 in M5 midlength

CMMG make them too. My buddy just bought one, very nice upper, comes with a permanent Phantom flash suppressor.
how's the reliability of these compare to the 16" middy?
seems you'd have a bit better gas pressure with the 16"

Noveske has a 14.5" mid barrel.
As said, Noveske, CMMG, Sabre... they all make 14.5" Midlengths. 3000 rounds + through mine and a couple of classes with no issues.

I'm 'buddy'... Pic for your enjoyment: CMMG midlength lightweight 14.5" upper with perm attach flash hider. Seems to be a nice setup so far. "Sam" suggested the lightweight profile and I'm glad that's what I bought.

My 'modern retro' put together by cmmg.

Unfortunately the SABRE seems to only come with the Permed FH. :(
I still might get one later on down the road.

+1 I've got one of these, too...

I was worried about this before I got mine, but having looked around on the errornet and having seen how many manufacturers are making these, it seemed like this is a non-issue.

I don't know why it'd be an issue. You have lower port pressure than a carbean plus more dwell time than an 11.5" commando. It's the best of all worlds.

i guess i was just wondering if there was enough barrel after the gas port to work good...
apparently a non-issue...
my 16 middy cycles ANYTHING. i used some real fast powder H4198 i think...and there was a definitive delay between firing and the bolt creeping it's way back to strip another round, but it worked. :D
a 14.5 middy might be interesting...
that noveske 13.7 (afghan?) with the pig brake on it is kinda neat too.
There really is plenty of barrel. I'd be quite comfortable with the dwell time on a 14.5 middy.
Is not a Noveske Afghan a "middy"?

The Afghan is a 14.5" SS middy barrel, the Infidel is their 13.7" middy barrel.

I don't see where they list the "Infidel" anymore (at least not a complete rifle)... Wonder why?
I too had thought about the dwell time being an issue with not enough barrel left over past the gas block, but hell, they make 10.5" and 12" guns run well with the right tweaking... It would seem Noveske wouldn't hang his reputation on something that doesn't work.

The infidel is still listed as a complete VIS upper or a VIS rifle, I forget which, but I just saw it on the web page.
What is the point of a 14.5? I don't get it...

14.5 is my favorite general purpose barrel length. Of all my ARs, I enjoy shooting the 14.5 the most. Even though 16 isn't really that much longer, the difference is huge. The possibility of mid length makes it that much more interesting.

The difference in velocity? The difference in length?
Any idea if Noveske plans on a 14.5" middy in the N4 configuration??
Velocity is just right out of a 14.5. I pick up a good amount of velocity over my 11.5" guns, but lose just a little compared to my 16".
Most of my shooting is 220 yards or closer. But even when I get out to over 400 yards, the 14.5 is just fine.
I also run my silencer on my 14.5, which to me is the optimal length for getting some powder to burn before the bullet passes through the can.
Just seems to me that, for ~1" of barrel length, the extra 100fps is worth it.

It could be.... depending on your needs. In a worst case scenario, I would need my 14.5 to frag with M193 ammo. It'll easily accomplish this inside of my realistic ranges of engagement. Velocity is always nice. I agree with that. But when I pick up a 16" AR it just feels so much longer.

OK, I hear you. It's been a couple years since I held an M4 so maybe I've forgotten.
Does any one know of a dealer who sells the Sabre 14.5 middy barrel w/o an upper?
