Pretty simple question:

What's the bet 9mm AR that takes the Colt SMG mags?
I'm aware of the Colt 6951 but are there any others with any benefits?

Thanks

I like black creek precision’s reduced magwell lower. Doesn’t use a long finger bolt catch, and has a few nice embellishments.

Hammer27,

I really like my CMMG Mk9 T. It has a dedicated 9 mm lower (unlike the Colts) and a Keymod handguard. The bolt and bolt carrier is the same as Colts. The Brownells magazines I purchased run great. It also has a mil spec buffer tube. I have 500 rounds through it thus far without issues.

Quarter Circle 10 is also a popular brand, but I have never shot one so I cannot comment.

Quarter Circke 10 is the nicest I’ve ever had in hand.
I have a CMMG as well, it’s a bit cheaper, traditional shape receiver and is rock solid reliable.

There's also a mag well block (Hahn?) that inserts into stock AR lowers. It worked well. I sold when the mags choked with HST and Gold Dot rounds.

I have a Colt patterned QC10 lower. After I got the buffer and buffer spring configuration down, it runs flawlessly.

I too like the QC10 lower - very nice, excellent quality. I have a video here of my build (https://videos.utahgunexchange.com/watch/barely-legal-gun-porn-4-5-quot-9mm-ar-build_WJ5HtF9RFrJa1s1.html), using a Mas Defense side charging upper with the QC10 lower.

My build is similar but without the side charging upper. How do you like the side charging compared to the traditional charging method?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180520/df08b67bedc34c46c37552eacc3db7f8.jpg

Awesome build brother - looks great! I really dig the small sub ar9's like these. And the side charger is cool, works nicely on this build so far, so no complaints here.

I have the DDLES, precursor to the QC10 lower.

While that company sucked and took lots of peoples $$$, I was able to get a lower out of them easily and it's been a great Colt Pattern lower with a YHM 9MM SBR upper setup.

I see that QC10 also offers lowers that accept Glock 9mm and H&K 9mm mags, is there an advantage to using Colt mags or is it just personal preference? I ask because I know nothing about SMG mags nor AR 9mm lowers, but I do own Glocks and have toyed with the idea of a 9mm AR that accepts mag I already have.

For me, it's was preference. I already had a Glock AR9 and dig it, but wanted to build one myself and have always dug the look/style's of the old Sterling L2's and 80's KG9/Tec-9's, so I mapped out that build accordingly.

But I think, if there was to be an advantage, it would probably go to the Glock pattern lowers because of how readily those can be had and at much more affordable prices. So many people have them now too, they're tested and really the way the AR9 industry seems to be going - at least that's what I see when I look around. Just my take on it.

New frontier armory has an AR lower that takes MP5 mags.

https://www.newfrontierarmory.com/shop/c-5-billet-lower/

This seems like an excellent option if it works as intended.

The MP5 mag is double stack, double feed and constant curve.

It has all the ingredients for a proper smg mag.

Tapered cartridges feed best from a curved magazine.
