I bought the below pictured sling off of Gunbroker as a curiosity. The seller (I believe) thought it was a USGI item, but I'm skeptical. For one thing, by 1991 I'm pretty sure that "NSN" had replaced the old "FSN" designation (replacement actually started in 1974). The NSN/FSN actually translates to a web sling, but I'm doubtful if the US military bought many (if any) in desert tan. "SANDCO" is the name of a few existing companies, but it's unknown if they made rifle slings.

It's a actually a perfectly functional sling, but I hesitate to call it genuine. Or can anyone confirm otherwise?

The military did buy a lot of tan colored field gear for Desert Shield/Desert Storm, most of which was delivered after the war was over and never issued so could be legit.
