Interesting round, will be interesting to read the stats
The new ammunition, which will initially be offered in a 135-grain 9mm Luger, was built to meet new FBI requirements, Larry Head, director and chief engineer of handgun ammunition, said in the press release.
50 percent deeper penetration than original Hydra-Shok and similar loads

So I wonder if this means the HST is somehow deficient?
I still think it's a bad mistake leaving .40S&W.

HST will still be the premier Federal product. As of the moment, the new Hydra Shok is a commercial market product according to what I have been told.

Are there good mistakes?
I'm not impressed with the expansion, but it will meet the penetration requirements (by not expanding too well). There is a fine line with expansion vs penetration, and it's not easy to get a "magic" round that does both under all circumstances.
My preference will continue to be HST 147gr +P. For me at least it's the best possible combination. YMMV.
Another round for them to sell for a buck a round at the big box stores.

Pretty much...

Why 135? Is the FBI also using Critical Duty and this new Hydra Shok will be a ballistic match? Will we be seeing 135gr Gold Dots and Ranger next?

Stock up on it when you find it, because they aren't making much of it. Federal told me last year it was discontinued. Still on their price list, but that doesn't mean they will make a lot of it.
Sounds like they're just giving new life to old bones taking an aged design and making a few mods to keep up with all the new options hitting the market.

Looks like a completely new design to me.

Mainly to achieve standard pressure velocities from a < 4" barrel.

They discontinued the +P or HST in general?
147 +p. Still shows on their distributor price lists, but just are not making it. HST is still going to be the best duty round they offer, still in 124gr, 124 +p, and 147.I have tried to order 147 +p several times in the last 6 mo or so and been told each time it is out of production. Who knows though, they could change their minds again tomorrow and run a bunch of it.
