Basically, this is my "holy crap its on!" heading out to the hellscape AR. My focus on this gun was simplicity and durability.

Basically...

Colt Pencil Barrel Carbine

Aimpoint T2 Locktited and paint penned. Zeroed for 77 grain (which is what I stock)
Magpul BUIS. Locktited and paint penned.
Aimpoint x6 unit
BCM grip (I like the simplicity). I keep some batteries and lens wipes in there.
BCM stock (again, simple but good).
Arasaka Scout light in a mount that attaches to the factory hand guard. I like the old hand guard because it is durable as hell, doesn't get mega hot, and not held on by screws and locktite. I swapped out the click cap for a momentary only.
Vickers sling.

Very nice, gotta love the lightweight pencil barrel (AR6720).

I dig it. My 6720 is my favorite rifle. The balance and super light-ness is awesome.

Have you run any Gen 2 PMags in that one? Mine is just a fuzz too tight to drop Gen 2s freely. It's fine with Gen 3s and USGIs though. Teflon Okays shoot out of the magwell like greased hotdogs.

The Aimpoint 6X magnifier opens up a new world of shooting on RDOs. Super clean glass.

Looks great. When designing the gun, was weight a factor in barrel selection?

I tend to favor medium-heavy profile barrels and don't much care as long as I have a sling.

Noice. Sensible as can be.

I like it Greg, All bases covered to get the job done. Everything you need without the unnecessary worry of extra screws and fasteners.

Totally. I so want one and have been close to pulling the trigger on it numerous times. Just hard (for me) to justify the $800+ when I can get something like a Trijicon 1-6 for a few bills more.

I like it!

I have a very similar setup. I've had it as my backup rifle for years, and kind of ignored it. During a course last year, my primary choked and I had to switch to the long-neglected backup. In a way, it's my new favorite. It's hard to argue with the stupid simplicity of a pencil barrel and polymer furniture. I'm running an Elcan on mine, and a different light setup, but the principles are the same. It worked great while running around in the woods and shooting pop up Ivans.

The other students in the course handled it as well, and nearly everyone remarked how nice and light it was compared to their beasts (rails, optics, suppressors, etc.)

The day will come when this thread title is deeply regretted. Cool rifle.

I am thinking it is a little tongue in cheek.

Right, plus they were in the room playing with dolls and pretending to be teachers. I couldn’t handle it!

That is a solid carbine, and I appreciate your including the reasons it is set up the way it is. This should have been posted in AR General discussion, as it is not custom build https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?82447-PLEASE-READ-THIS-FIRST-Custom-Build-AR-Forum

Andy

I thought that’s where I posted it! I’m sloppy.

Is that an IWC TMC Scout Light Mount like this one? http://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/tmc-scout-light-mount-n-slot/

If yes, how do you like it?

Thanks

I’m not Greg, but I have two and I love them both.

Good stuff. Wouldn't mind lugging one of those around myself. Looks light and effective.

I like your decisions...particularly the lack of a free-float rail. Question about loctite and T2... I've noticed that Aimpoint says that thread locker is unnecessary on the T2 and can cause issues with the helicoils. Did you notice any issues when installing the Loctite on the T2 screws? thanks!

I'm tempted to pick up one of those 6x magnifiers but they are loooooooonggggg.

Any feedback?

I tried a setup like you have for a while. I eventually caved and added a MagPUl MOE-sl hand guard.

For a Doomsday setup, take with you on a camping trip, travel gun, general purpose gun, ect. your setup is extremely functional.

Even if one swapped out the 6720 for a 6920, it's still a solid concept.

Simple, light weight, handy and functional. You might be onto something here.
